A pessoa diz que é gótica mas não conhece essa aqui: "The angel's voice whispered in my ear — I do not doubt it, I already hear your signs — that you would come on a Sunday morning. I announce you with the bells of the cathedrals."

“If you're not careful, the newspapers will have you hating the people who are being oppressed, and loving the people who are doing the oppressing.” A classic quote from Malcolm X, who was assassinated 60 years ago today.

YESSSS I love what Bob Ross said "talent is pursued interest! Anything you can practice you can do." Love will carry you when nothing else will. That fun is vital.

Part 2 of my imaginary Dino Crisis remake image series.

Between the "don't complain about money if you choose to be an artist, get a real job instead" people and the "you sold your soul in trying to make art into a career, selling art is the downfall of all creativity" people I swear artists can't win

why is learning arm anatomy so hard for you Jessi?" LOOK. LOOK AT WHAT ARMS DO.

No kings. No tyrants. Not now. Not ever.

Oh hey! It was easy to miss, but dd you know in 2008 the CIA declassified the OSS WW2 Field Manual to Sabotage? It's a very interesting insight into how regular folks fought the nazis in small & myriad ways. And who doesn't enjoy historical documents! www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/26184

Last night, I stumbled onto this reference website that I'd never heard of before, and am blown away by its quality. Highly, highly recommended. www.dimensions.com

I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute. The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud. This was the right and only appropriate response.

okay, it’s time for me to finally weigh in: it’s probably a bad sign that guys are just doing sieg heils in public again

Bringing this back because this has been my life for the last week:

i will never be the person to say that changing people's lingo is the first or most important focus. there are i think always other more material things that are more necessary and impactful. that said, it's just so fucking easy lmao, like come on

I will never stop thinking about this Gabe Newell quote

Fictional villains: my motivation involves a complex backstory around lost love and a deep yearning to be understood Real life villains: being cruel makes me feel like a big strong man

Ok, after having to adjust my illustrations often because they are too dark on other screens or when printed I decided to turn down the brightness of my display from 50% to 25%. So far it seems like it was a good idea, it's easier on my eyes anyway. I wouldn't be able to watch GoT S8 on it though

I need to make some time for personal art or I'll explode

Connect the dots method for freehand ink sketches. I started doing this during my urban sketches class because this was cleaner than perspective lines and I can hide most of them.

I will enthusiastically champion puppets, costumes, miniatures, stop-motion animation, matte paintings, and other heightened effects that have all the visible smudges and fingerprints of a passionate craftsperson over any attempt at realism, any day of the week.

The reason villains are typically more interesting than heroes in fiction is very simple. Heroes in most mainstream American art obey the law and uphold the status quo. If you want more interesting good guys, you need to start writing heroes who blow up pipelines and kill ICE agents.

I'm biased but I genuinely think Hollywood is leaving money on the table not commissioning bespoke illustrated posters. Outside of like Dune these are literally the only posters I remember from the past 5 years and I've only seen one of these

Visit museums, go see art in person. There are no proper words to describe how different from pictures they look and feel. Richer? Closer to the artists' vision? Certainly. But sometimes it's the difference between reading about a dragon and having one breathe fire at your face, marking you forever.

We like to think that if famous painters from the past travelled to present times they would get emotional about how beloved they became. I think most of them would indeed cry, but at how wrong the colors and textures of their work look in photographs, knowing that this is how most people know them.

Brazil shows that it can be done. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/w...

Heartbreaking: local artist overthinks the shape of an elbow 😔

real monkey's paw that we invented the ability to hold the sum of all human knowledge in the palm of your hand and then a few years later we're turning it into your stupid friend that pretends to know the answer to every question

Newsletter: Generative AI is a marketing con perpetuated by Sam Altman and Dario Amodei through a mixture of lies and half-truths carried by a tech media that fails to ask the right questions. Outside of ChatGPT, generative AI companies barely get any traffic at all. www.wheresyoured.at/longcon/

AI will never be able to shed its ties and inherent shared dna with far-right motives and ideology. It’s anti art, it’s anti learning and intellectual, it’s anti truth, it’s anti worker, it only serves to seize more power from the lower and working classes.

see a knight, post a knight (four)

Saw a screening of a few of David Lynch’s short films. I miss seeing art made viscerally, cheaply, and for a small messy audience. It actually makes the world feel bigger and more interesting. Mass appeal shrinks it all down. Shit inspired me. Glad I saw it.

Boy howdy, do I, a trans woman, have some thoughts about how the gender revolution put a lot more emphasis on letting girls do boy stuff, and almost none on letting boys do girl stuff, which if anything reinforced the idea that girl stuff is inferior if not shameful.

make it stopppppppppp

Just learned that Victor Antonov just passed away - art director of Half Life 2 and art lead of Dishonoured. Probably some of if not the best art directed games of all time. HL2s has always been a massive influence on me since I first played it as a 17 year old. What a tragedy, he was only 52

Some good news to counter the horror:

People who write about "this is the wrong fight to pick," never ever actually fight for anything. Feel free to ignore them.

We're stoked to introduce the 'No Gen AI' seal for indie games! Indie devs can use it on their game's store page to assure potential players that their game was made without the use of Generative AI. You can grab it from the Polygon Treehouse website:- www.polygon-treehouse.com/no-gen-ai-seal

Your favorite artists are not your skill benchmark when you begin drawing. This leads to disappointment. They have years of practice. Your aim should be doing what you can to improve yesterday's art.
