I’ve just seen someone referred to as a “shrew negotiator”. And now I can’t erase from my mind the image of a person trying to reason with a tiny, mole like creature and persuade them to come out from their underground home and talk.

Manchester United will play Fulham in the next round of the FA Cup. Home tie, could be worse.

My favourite Beatles songs… Come Together youtu.be/45cYwDMibGo?... Clichéd to say, but it still sounds modern today. I once heard this in a club on a big system at the end of the night (Luke Una dropped it at Electric Chair) and it was magnificent! Goosebumps can’t lie.

Come on United! Three points and a decent performance please. 🙏 🤞

When I shop for music online I listen to lots of tracks. I’ll preview a short section then move on to the next if I don’t like it. I’ve started completely skipping the tunes with an obvious AI cover image. It generally indicates that the music has had little thought or care put in to it.

This is excellent. Give it a listen.

If your roof leaks, do you ‘launch an investigation’ or just call the local roofing contractor to come and fix it? *obviously, if you’re the Glazers, you do neither!

I started the New Year with a day of culture… Morning: The Moonwalkers (Lightroom) — Immersive storytelling at its best. Afternoon: Electric Dreams (Tate Modern) — Optical illusion made real. Evening: Poor Things (Film) — A grotesque and unique abstract masterpiece. Stone is amazing.

Just watched the Sir Alex documentaries. I thought they were great! It’s nice to reminisce about the brighter times once in a while. But it really highlights our contrasting fortunes over the last decade.

Merry Christmas both to those I know and those I don’t know yet. I hope your day is filled with love, good spirits (40%ABV recommended) and minimal drama. Take it easy. M. x

You can keep your Josef Müller-Brockmann’s, your Massimo Vignelli’s and your Wim Crouwel’s. The greatest ever grid system is the one printed on the back of (some) wrapping paper that ensures you cut the paper nice and square!

Poignant but beautifully executed advert for Tommy's pregnancy and baby loss charity. www.youtube.com/watch?v=HmkQ...

Twitter. The place where a person makes a perfectly good joke. But people misread the joke as a statement and then think they can add their punchline, even though the punchline was the last word of the original joke.

I’ve been to a number of exhibitions this year. Enzo Mari (Design Museum) Design Discoveries (Japan House) Yinka Shonibare CBE: Suspended States (Serpentine South Gallery) The Vinyl Factory — Reverb (180 Studios) Anthony McCall — Solid Light (Tate Modern) All good, but nothing outstanding.

Ratcliffe is in a hurry to get United winning titles. The ‘project 150’ idea of winning the league by 2028 is a manifestation of this. Maybe because of Ratcliffe’s age, he doesn’t feel he has time for a long rebuilding process.

Feels like this team is getting close to Amorim’s first 11.

Apparently I’ve listened to 844 podcast episodes so far this year, across 48 different shows. That’s 27 days 17 hours and 53 minutes total podcast listening time.

So far so good. United looking solid defensively. A little bit disconnected going forward, but we only need one chance if we can take it. 🔴⚪️⚫️

It’ll be interesting to see how the Jaguar concept translates into production. The low ride height, long bonnet and ‘fitment’ of the wheels in the arches — which make the concept look so aggressive — would be highly impractical in reality. The side profile still retains some Jaguar shape.

Up from 13th to 9th in the league (if we hold on). Need to push on and boost our goal difference which was 0 before today’s game. More goal in the 2nd half?

To take a child to see United just once this season will now cost: Adult membership: £35 Kids membership: £20 Adult members ticket: £66 Kids members ticket: £66 Total: £187. Or £93.50 each! This is ridiculously expensive! Are fans being asked to pay off Ten Hag’s redundancy fees?

Feels like an age since United last played, but it’s only been two weeks! Obviously, there’s been lots of change in that time. I’m excited to see Ruben’s Reds in action later.

Good bit of cobweb-shaking at WHP last night.

I buy all my music digitally now. I always thought it’d be nice to be able to go to a record shop, get the advice of a knowledgeable store worker, then download what I like and the store gets fair commission for the recommendation. I do still ‘dig’ for music online. I’m not eating the feed.
