The War between King James and King William in 1689-91, that decided the fate of Ireland. Not only 'Derry Aughrim and the Boyne' but also a war that shaped the future of the Kingdom of Ireland fro over 100 years and still has resonances today www.theirishstory.com/2018/07/08/t...

So proud of my community of Corca Dhuibhne all are welcome language is open to all and even better he plays for an Gaeltacht. Fluent after two years amazing to see #CorcaDhuibhne

I have been in favour of this for years. We already have a number of agreements with Latin America & the Caribbean in key areas but if we can build political momentum with 🇧🇷 🇦🇷 🇨🇱 🇨🇴 🇲🇽 & others on international law, defence of democracy etc we can break the 'global north vs global south' nonsense.

I’m George Takei and I approve of this message.

Irish people need to start preparing for a different world right now not a second later.

Right wing knobs framing this as a choice *between* tacking climate change and security are exactly the people polarising progressive Europeans off treating security as a real issue. Climate change is a huge urgent challenge whether we like it or not. Ntm renewable energy BOOSTS European security!

It is time for an armed forces of Europe. Volodymyr Zelenskyy said such a force would not replace the transatlantic NATO alliance, but it would instead ensure that Europe is as strong as Washington - and taken seriously by friends and foes once again. news.sky.com/story/zelens...

Europe underspent on defence for 2+ decades & downplayed Russian aggression for the sake of cheap gas. Russia built up a huge army to annex their neighbours, neglecting living standards in Russia. Europe is reluctantly rearming now. We could do with more appreciation of this on the Irish left tbh.

It's up to Europe and Europe alone to help Ukraine as the US is no longer a reliable partner or friend. If we don't do more now, the consequences will be worse down the road. We can't empower or enable Putin's imperialism. He sees Europe as weak and we need to show him we aren't.

From the Washington Post: "Trump says Palestinians would not have the right to return to Gaza under his proposal to take over the enclave ...the United Nations and legal experts say it probably violates international law". What court would find the US guilty? Who is going to enforce the judgement?

Always like maps that make you think again. This one highlights 🇬🇧 centrality to EuroAtlantic security - if one accepts the premise, and some might not - that in turn also suggests that next door 🇮🇪 perhaps has a more important geostrategic position than sometimes realised or discussed in Ireland:

This new documentary on @tg4.bsky.social is on the 1920-22 intercommunal conflict in the North-East Ulster during the partition of Ireland. Known also as the Belfast Pogrom. It was humbling to be part of the excellent team of contributors. In Irish with English subtitles. tg4.ie/en/player/ho...

There are no two countries on planet earth as psychopathic as Russia and Israel. No other ones delight so much about the horrors they inflict on others.

European territorial waters are continually being probed by the two totalitarian powers - China and Russia. In some cases - like this one - it goes way beyond probing and malicious actions occur. A unified European Security system is very much needed. www.theguardian.com/world/2024/n...

Norway has allocated 500 million NOK (~42 million €) to procure weapons and equipment from Ukrainian defence industry for use by the Ukrainian armed forces. mil.in.ua/uk/news/norv...

No votes for any party that appeases Russia.

I think the Irish left could benefit from a framing of this stuff that can rightly acknowledge how the EU enables Israeli genocide, be against a European army, and support Irish neutrality while *also* not sounding like other European countries must just be warmongers if they’re rearming.
