Grasshopper Warbler reeling away at the back of the house, Alnwick. Singing every evening at the moment after a few weeks of silence - hopefully raised a first brood in that period #NEBirding

A new blog on our recent video topic - how to confirm breeding attempts in RBBP species. Keep looking! rbbp.org.uk/2025/06/27/c...

Extremely proud to have my Pied flycatcher andanimated mindful moment on the @bbcspringwatch.bsky.social website and BBCiPlayer. Watch it here www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

Oooh, there’s a sound I haven’t heard for years. A Turtle Dove purring in a quiet corner of Cambridgeshire. Entered into @birdtrack.bsky.social with breeding evidence and pinpoint location to help @ukrbbp.bsky.social monitoring, of course!

Possibly for the first time ever, Milton Keynes was the best place in the world for 90 minutes last night. Kraftwerk headlining at MK Bowl.

Bird news from Milton Keynes Bowl. Red Kite showing well over the Happy Mondays

The Royal Albert Hall from the cheap(er) seats. Very impressive. That bright bit at the bottom is Bobby Weir, remaining torch-bearer of the Grateful Dead. He’s also very impressive.

All seven of a brood of Stonechats still being fed by their hot and bothered parents at Thirlwall Common, Northumberland, yesterday. Normal clutch size is 4-6 eggs, so they’ve done well! #birds #NEBirding

Summer’s a great time for confirming breeding by RBBP species, maybe by returning to sites where you’ve found possible or probable breeders in the spring to “upgrade” records. It can be challenging - here’s some tips on what to look for #UKBirding #birds #ornithology youtu.be/a3nDoucMHCk?...

First-summer Little Gull at Boulmer this evening #NEbirding

Seeing lots of the #fungi Egghead Mottlegill, Panaeolus semiovatus, this morning. I’m no expert, but it seems to have quite precise habitat requirements! 💩

Beanley Woods this afternoon. c25 Crossbills and fledged Tree Pipits #NEbirding

So, as we head through the summer there’s still loads of rare breeding birds to be found and recorded… here’s some ideas youtu.be/50fFUafiVgY?...

Job alert: We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable marine ornithologist to join the JNCC Marine Species Team. More info here: www.civilservicejobs.service.gov.uk/csr/index.cg...

A sound I can never get tired of. Nightjar on Alnwick Moor #NEBirding #birds

Seems to me that orchid numbers are down substantially in Northumberland this year. But there was still a fine show of Northern Marsh Orchids along the river Aln near Lesbury today #WildFlowerHour

A fantastic cluster of Bird’s-eye Primrose near Brough, Cumbria #WildFlowerHour

Bit of an unusual one for #WildFlowerHour… Germander Speedwell and Bush Vetch growing through a discarded target on an army range. Cumbria. Nature finds a way! @wildflowerhour.bsky.social

Sea Milkwort, always a pleasure to come across. Alnmouth today #WildFlowerHour

Another moth, don’t know what’s come over me… a Wood Tiger (actually two, it’s coupled with another out of sight behind it)

Northern (?) Eggars - male (left) and female - on Butterburn Flow, Cumbria. The only ones I’ve seen that weren’t flying past at 100mph! #TeamMoth

Fox, homeward bound across a Border mire last night having just retrieved prey from a cache. It detoured around me to reach its streamside den (where I had just glimpsed two cubs).

A brood of 11 young Shelduck at Seaton Point Northumberland today, getting used to life on the waves #birds #NEbirding

Still c30 northbound Dunlin at Seaton Point this afternoon, with some wonderful variation in size, shape and colour #birds #NEbirding

Regarding UK Stonechats with features of the Continental race rubicola, e.g. white rumps and ‘shoulders’… how about this stunner in Cumbria over the weekend? #UKbirding #birds

The deep purple tones of Alpine Bartsia on Cetry Bank, Upper Teesdale #WildFlowerHour @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
