The challenge is to choose 20 books that stayed with you or greatly influenced you. One book per day, for 20 days. No explanations, no reviews, just covers. Number 12/20 💙📚 #BookSky #Books #BookChallenge

Forgotten in the glare of all the other world mayhem, but the Georgians continue to show that you don’t give up in the face of an authoritarian takeover. Day 214 of protests.

I was extremely honoured to have created the backdrop artwork for the magnificent @nadineshah Glastonbury performance earlier today. Of course you won’t have seen it on the BBC as they didn’t show any of it.

The month of June largely happening at a distance**, courtesy of a painting and decorating project that's needed permission for mission creep. This gang providing a welcome reminder of summer's season though. ** Not as much of a distance as in several other countries that come to mind.

Things which grow tiring very quickly. No. 1 in an occasional series: Being lectured on patriotism and the evils of immigration by rich people living abroad to avoid paying taxes.

It's a misread of public opinion to see opposition to Israel as a woke metro elite thing (though progressives care about it a lot more). In a recent YG poll just 12% thought Israel's actions in Gaza were justified.

The last paragraph of this piece is 💀💀💀

"People fear a system crashing down because they don’t understand that it already happened and they’ve been living in wreckage sold to them as privilege. Or they understand just fine, and do not know what to do about it." sarahkendzior.substack.com/p/heat-exhau...

Mars and the moon peek out through a wildfire smoke infused sunset.

NEW: 549 Palestinians now killed in the last 30 days. Itself shocking. But, EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS KILLED AT A FOOD AID STATION. A unique war crime. Firing squads using aid as bait. Palestinians in #Gaza face two choices: starve to death, or risk death to get food. 🧵

Just got off the small end of a 66 with no aircon… ☀️ ☀️ ☀️

So they're cutting benefits for newly disabled people but protecting it for current claimants? This is grotesque.

So, with a h/t to @dgplacenames.bsky.social‬, probably time to look at what we've gained and lost as the Scottish OS Name Books were transferred from scotlandsplaces.gov.uk to scotlandspeople.gov.uk in the past couple of days. Obvs, the name books being available at all is a big win.

I’ve just seen the word ‘loo-tility’ in a new build home’s plans - describing a utility room with a toilet at one end. I’m not loving it.

And of course, the butterfly species were well represented. Ones I could get pics of were, unexpectedly Silver-studded Blue, Dark-Green Fritillary, Small Copper and a hiding Blackneck moth!

A shock of summer flowers, in St Mary's graveyard, Berkeley, Glos. Surrounded by tombs & memorials to people long forgotten. When I go, I want to be flowers. #photography #flowers #graveyard #Berkeley #Gloucestershire

Last year, a trio of mathematicians found what seemed to be a kind of order to prime numbers – and it came from somewhere completely unexpected. www.iflscience.com/remarkable-p...

Heads up that the server running my feeds has had an (as of yet) unknown hardware failure and will take a little while to debug. Not sure how long its gonna be.

Dmitry Grouzoubinski brilliantly nails the damage leavers like Daniel Hannan did in the referendum campaign. It should have been a choice for the British people , but he took the choice away by saying there was no choice…we could just leave the EU and everything would be better…

Utterly unbearable. Newborn babies dying in Gaza as Israeli blockade causes dire shortage of formula. www.itv.com/news/2025-06...

Rogart. A meadow pipit’s nest. Hidden in the moss & heather outside the gate…

Few things are as life affirming as this glorious minute or so of footage of a party in Texas in the 1960s with Lightnin’ Hopkins playing guitar and two girls dancing away. (Ta to Alexis Petridis who stumbled across it) youtu.be/dQ4wExg_TBs?...

I can never lay my hands on a ³⁄₁₆" whitworth thread ½" grub screw when I need one, and tbh, coming up with the unicode for those fractions was a lot easier.

I think AI is going to eventually tank in the longterm, but... the only real way to combat this is single-interest communities. Forums, user comms, etc, with a barrier to entry. They become trustable knowledgebases. It's really the only way forward is to return to what worked best the first time

The historic Hotspur Press building on fire this afternoon, after the owners let it rot for years. (Son took the picture from the top floor of a nearby multi-storey car park)

Credit to guy who kept passenger-operated timed heater re-started in Glasgow Queen Street station Waiting Room yesterday morning. We shall never know what his preferred ambient temperature is, but I'm guessing around 100 degrees Celsius

Ugh. Part of a lyric from 2003.

One minute in Poltava. This city is so beautiful. Ukraine is more than the war - the core message behind everything I do.

A lot of people on here are going to look very foolish when all Dan Hannan’s predictions fall into place over the next four days.

Every great city should have a funicular that is included in its zonal fare system (apart from Amsterdam. Amsterdam is off the hook.)
