Between killing USAID and dismantling US public health, they are murdering millions in slow motion while we watch. They have to be stopped.

NIH freeze by the numbers, and the conclusion is correct. This is sabotage, and we are quickly reaching a point where even if everything were to open back up today, it would be too late to save many labs.

Why does National Institutes of Health funding matter? It’s the fuel to find cures for: - Cancer - Alzheimer’s - Cystic Fibrosis - Pediatric Cancer - ALS - MS - Parkinson’s Trump tried to cut it, but thanks to AG Campbell, a judge blocked the cuts. This is why we fight.

CROCKETT 2028

Yes, the "lay off university leaders, they are working behind the scenes" would be more plausible if they weren't so busy in front of the scenes killing DEI programs and putting "Biological Women" signs up on bathrooms.

If you are working on grants and want to identify any of the flagged NSF keywords without a ton of cntl+F, I wrote a very short R script here docs.google.com/document/d/1...

More great reporting from Judd Legum at Popular...Great in terms of getting the receipts, definitely not great in terms of what is happening... popular.info/p/update-nih...

Here is an easy thing you can do today to support trans people and fight authoritarianism: 👇

Reminder of what we may be dealing with Repeated ketamine use does indeed produce dependency and the “come down” symptoms are not trivial and include impaired judgement, disorientation, irritability and restlessness www.wsj.com/business/elo...

We have to keep fighting back, and people are. So take a moment to let this thread hearten you. ❤️👊

Short 🧵 covering the role of the federal government in funding science.

At least two suits are in the works from the teams that brought the earlier pause cases: A collection of State Attorney Generals and DemocracyForward. The courts can't act until somebody asks them to, and the legal teams need to get their ducks in a row (and they are busy doing this).

The geniuses at the Democratic Party settling on “maybe we were too woke” rather than “a cabal of billionaire pedophile Nazis are stealing your money and taking a sledgehammer to your future” is astonishing. Just one of those things

Republican regime: eviscerates federal funding for science and medical research, erases transgender people, disappears Black History Month, poised to slash Medicare to give more money to billionaires Democrats: we put John Lewis on a mug, money please

New York Times article now up on Federal Register stuff. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/s... 1/n

I'm actually raging at what's happening in Cardiff, and the callous treatment of friends and colleagues by a nakedly incompetent leadership class. Read this and weep: voice.cymru/two-weeks-in...

NIH lawyer: "Math is hard!"

Written by a MD-PhD student who had worked with rhe incoming NIH director stanforddaily.com/2025/01/29/s...

Thanks for sharing this!

Students have to lead because the self-proclaimed leadership of U.S. science--NAS, AAAS, HHMI, universities--are cowering under their desks.

Prestige is inherently cowardly.

Written by a whole bunch of law professors, this seems like a good document to have on hand if you see your university/department trying to eliminate or pull-back on DEI programs. "DEI Programs Are Lawful Under Federal Civil Rights Laws and Supreme Court Precedent"

The press has a big role to play in shining light of what is going on...

"If DOGE is a federal agency, it can’t shield its records from the public. If it’s not an agency, then DOGE’s tens of millions of dollars in funding weren’t legally allocated and should be returned, some contend."

Great guidelines for institutions: By now, many organizational leaders are well aware of the need to conduct a legal review of their DEI programs. But having lawful policies in place is one part of the equation. The way you communicate about those policies matters just as much. hbr.org/2025/02/the-...
