You don’t say?

This is interesting stuff. America went from a country where 60 Minutes was by far the most watched show for decades — until the 2000s, when American Idol took the crown. And that has in turn shaped political views. www.niemanlab.org/2025/04/the-...

The party of family values

DOGE surveilling (with a drone?!) and threatening a whistleblower. These people are straight up gangsters.

This is positively Soviet. Vera is a nonprofit organization that funds lawyers for indigent people. The government sought to embed people there like political commissars, and only pulled back when they found out Vera's federal grants had already been cut. www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

🚨Attention Members of the DC Bar🚨 Ballots went out today for key positions in the DC bar. Please vote for: Diane Seltzer for President Amanda Molina for Treasurer Note: Seltzer is running against Pam Bondi's brother. Get your ballot and vote ASAP.

The cop who provided the Gang Interview Sheet that is the main basis for the MS-13 claim was suspended and indicted for serious professional misconduct, as we reported today: newrepublic.com/article/1940...

Every university publication should seriously consider taking down all student work for now

Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect. Proved truer every day in the US.

Breaking news: A judge said she will require Trump administration officials to produce in-depth details about the U.S. governments attempts, or lack thereof, to return a Maryland resident who was mistakenly sent to a notorious prison in El Salvador.

This administration sent 200+ fathers, sons, and husbands to be tortured in a foreign prison for the rest of their lives. 9 in 10 have no criminal record. None received any due process. If you *aren’t* outraged, you need to check your fucking humanity.

These are the words of a tyrant, not a president.

Bone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

The “home-growns” are US citizens.

Law students say they want to work for the firms standing up to Trump www.politico.com/news/2025/04...

Emoluments clause? What emoluments clause?

Days before masked ICE agents detained Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk to deport her, Dept determined that the admin had not produced any evidence showing she engaged in antisemitic activities or made public statements supporting a terrorist organization www.washingtonpost.com/national-sec...

I hate to be that guy, but this is the five-alarm fire, and every elected Democrat and frankly, every Washington reporter should be ringing the bell. If it can happen to him, it can happen to anyone. Nobody with a voice should give this administration a moment’s peace about it.

Yesterday they refused to answer two of the three questions ordered. Today's refuses to address, in any way, all three. None of this has anything to do with the order. This is open defiance of a district court backed by a unanimous three-judge circuit ruling and a unanimous 9-0 Supreme Court ruling.

THREAD: The Trump administration's DOJ has removed a study from the NIJ website that found that immigrants, and particularly undocumented immigrants, commit crimes at significantly lower rates than U.S. citizens. The study is at odds with the Trump regime's propaganda about immigrants & crime. (1)

Wait but then we could get back the people wrongly deported? So hard to keep track

This is all completely unacceptable. A moderately responsible Congress would be removing these fascists from office over this alone, even without the hundred other things.

Marco Rubio just announced 10 more people were sent to be imprisoned in CECOT. They were flown there from Gitmo to be imprisoned potentially for life based not on any crime for which they were convicted, but on unproven allegations of gang membership with no due process. This is not lawful.

As the Trump administration seeks to target protesters simply for exercising their First Amendment rights, the push to ban the sale of cell phone location data becomes even more important. #mapoli www.wgbh.org/news/politic...

Remember who the collaborators are

once again: you’re bound to find wild (and untrue) things if you analyze data that you do not understand

Milwaukee health officials requested the CDC’s help with a lead poisoning investigation at their schools. The response following the Trump admin’s massive firings? "I sincerely regret to inform you that due to the complete loss of our Lead Program, we will be unable to support #MedSky #BlueSky

Obama won Indiana in 2008. Republicans have made sure no more Democrats can win, by making sure no one can vote.

AI industry giants owe their existence to taxpayer-funded, open research, but many have abandoned this collaborative model. I spoke to The Atlantic about how US science and tech leadership was built on shared knowledge. When companies hoard research, innovation suffers and accountability declines.

Here is an up to date list of Big Law collaborators along with how much in free legal services they have pledged to Trump's causes. Paul Weiss 40M Cadwalader 100M Milbank 100M Skadden Arps 100M Willkie Farr 100M A&O Shearman 125M Kirkland & Ellis 125M Latham & Watkins 125M Simpson Thacher 125M

This is how you do it. This is how you must do it.

“By caving in to Trump’s demands, the firms may believe they are saving themselves, but they are in fact helping to advance Trump’s disinformation campaign. These firms … are allowing themselves to be used as pawns in Trump’s game to change public perception about his own legal troubles.”

Trump's official denouncement of former CISA head Chris Krebs is chilling in substance and utterly Stalinesque in tone. By threatening anyone who hires him, it aims to render Krebs effectively unemployable. 1/3

Hard to decide who will do the most harm, but RFK is making a strong bid.

Another troubling sign of the timidity of people, organizations, and whole fields who seem unwilling/unable stand up for those attacked by this regime. Chris Krebs was celebrated for, as a member of the first Trump administration, standing up and calling out his election lies.

Note once again that this cannot be done without illegally disclosing data. Everything they do is lawless.

This really is an extinction level event for NASA's science programs. arstechnica.com/space/2025/0...

Over 650 known cases so far, and most have nothing to do with pro-Palestinian advocacy. The admin seems to be engaged in a breakneck effort to kick out every foreign student who has had even the most minor interaction with the police possible, including for TRAFFIC CITATIONS and JAYWALKING tickets.

Honored to join this too.

Every state should do this, this is fantastic!!

This is what happens in Iran, China, Russia and Saudi Arabia. Congrats, MAGA and Republicans. Pressed for evidence against Mahmoud Khalil, government cites its power to deport people for beliefs apnews.com/article/mahm...

Starting to think that maybe this whole immunity thing wasn’t a great idea.

Trump’s tariffs are the biggest tax increase in decades and have upended global markets, making it easy to overlook a key question: Can a president do this?

No way. That’s so surprising…

Cool

For years, the lowest-performing students were improving on national tests. Now, they are in free fall.
