By this I mean if you block the edge of the goal you make the area the GK has to cover smaller (same idea as a wall at free-kicks really). (Way way back in the day, I had a theory that Dyche's Burnley were doing it really well, contributing to (by coincidence) Nick Pope's great season in 2017/18)

We shorten Aston Villa to Villa so *shrugs* but the bit about "in a world of Uniteds and Citys there's only one Hotspur, Tottenham Hotspur" is funny because there is also only one Tottenham. And another famous sports team with a 'Spurs' nickname.
