Watched the High Fidelity movie for the first time last night (I know I know I know…) and now I’m obsessed with this album by The Beta Band

List five famous people you've met, but one is a lie. 1) Keke Palmer 2) Angelina Jolie 3) Julia Roberts 4) Alanis Morissette 5) Britney Spears

From Britney to Barbra to Blondie to Metallica to Enigma to Charlie Puth… I won’t pick a lane!

I can’t stop watching this

Need the bloopers from this Righteous Gemstones scene STAT

Stephen Bray in 2019: "We cut that vocal on a TASCAM 8 track through a Ramsa console with a Shure 58! When Warners called to say they wanted to release it as a single I told Madonna she’d have to re-sing it for the “real” version. So glad she was smart enough to respond 'why would I do that?'"

Barbra Streisand … living the life I want to live when I’m in my 80s.

I would carry this Donna Summer double album around with me when I was a kid back in ‘78 or ‘79.

Got teary eyed last night watching Everybody’s Live with John Mulaney when I saw the payphone that’s up on Chaney Trail in Altadena. I always loved biking past that local landmark of ours.

When I start building my Barbra Streisand vinyl collection again (thanks a lot Eaton Fire!) this is the first album I'm gonna look for in shops. (ok probably also The Way We Were)

Still thinking about Walton Goggins being part of two wildly bonkers scenes last night in The White Lotus and The Righteous Gemstones. Lordy what a great night of TV.

For the first time in 25 years Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn will be performing live as Everything But The Girl this April...I am speechless.

Indeed. Also a few years back I wrote about why this middle wild child of Britney Spears's studio discography matters (and its connection to Hilary Duff's 'Dignity' album): albumism.com/features/bri...

One of the things I really miss about living in Altadena before the Eaton fire is walking down Lake Avenue on Saturday mornings - after coffee and a book at Cafe de Leche - and hearing them play drums outside of Rhythms of the Village as I went to the thrift shops, post office and Grocery Outlet.

Goodbye, David Jo. You were the frontman who led us to punk. You were the salt of the glam, the number one scarf wearer, the funky but chic standard bearer. Your later incarnations amplified your depth. Fly on, jet boy. #RIPDavidJohansen www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rh7Z...

Roberta Flack is bedrock to my music taste. Along with Fleetwood Mac, Carly Simon and The 5th Dimension she was the first music I remember hearing - and loving - as a child in the '70s thanks to my mom. Thank you and RIP to one the GOATs...also look up Rubina Flake (IYKYK).

When the winds kicked up again and the power cut out in our part of Altadena, cell reception became spotty. I could barely send texts but Watch Duty notifications still came through. That's how I knew we had to evacuate.

That's me in W. Altadena holding a Whitney Houston white label promo vinyl. Thank you @stereogum.bsky.social and @zachschonfeld.bsky.social for handling our stories from the Eaton Fire and Palisades Fire with care. If you want to help, DM me and I'll reply with links for those I know who need it.

A couple weeks after the Eaton Fire I bought a copy of Octavia E. Butler’s ’Parable of the Sower’. Living in Altadena I often heard about Butler who’s buried just down the street from where our house used to be. With all that happened it feels like the right time to read this book. #booksky #books

It’s an unusual experience to watch a benefit concert and realize they’re doing this for people like me, my Altadena neighbors, my friends and communities like ours. #FireAid

RIP Marianne Faithfull. Over the past few years I was learning about her journey pre / during / post the Stones and slowly collecting her albums. I admired her grit, openness and spark. If this was a normal month I’d post a pic of me w her albums but my old Discogs list will now have to suffice.

…Now on BSKY… @michaelstipe.bsky.social
