In evolutionary terms our entire biomedical enterprise is experiencing a bottleneck. How many extinctions of scientific careers will result? How much loss of talent?

Can this policy be legally challenged? It is wrecking havoc and affecting increasing numbers of applications the longer it continues. How many investigators have one or more application in limbo?

My older sister was part of this trial. Truly a triumph for biomedical science.

Graduate admissions being put on hold because of the chaos...

That is a great story and sounds like an amazing visit. Please help scientists fight for continued research funding in all fields including biologica where Current Trump policies are preventing NIH and NSF from awarding new grants.

How can this be stopped?

New article in Nature describing the current Trump policies that are preventing NIH from making new awards by preventing study section and advisory council meetings from being posted in the federal register: www.nature.com/articles/d41...

A large portion of grants awarded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health cannot be funded for the foreseeable future because of an indefinite hold on submissions to the Federal Register, according to an email reviewed by The Transmitter. By @avaskham.bsky.social bit.ly/3X8ngz8

This is so crazy! Lab girl is inspirational. I have recommended it to so many people to get a glimpse of what it is like to be a scientist. Especially a female scientist.

Notice of awards are being made by both NIH and NSF, and universities getting reimbursed for active grants right now. Things moving slower due to scrutiny but no signs of freeze. Info from first hand sources within last 2 days. Also, I submitted NIH grant yesterday w/ indirect costs as before.

Is there a list somewhere of everyone that was fired at NIH? I so appreciate my PO and everything he has done to promote and protect fundamental research. Now he is facing a reign of terror. This is so wrong.

Young scientists, doctors, and public health professionals who earned prestigious federal fellowships are getting the axe from Trump. Is this how to plan for the next pandemic? “We owe them a debt of gratitude, not a pink slip,” former agency heads said. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/18/u...

#Breaking - Trump administration to fire thousands at health agencies. Employees across agencies who were hired in the past one to two years are being targeted

Today, along with 2,000 other NIH employees, I had to clear out my office 😭 It was truly the honor of my life to work with such incredibly passionate people focused on improving human health. I’ve never experienced a more positive culture where *everyone* cared about their job and serving others.

Great!! Now we need advisory councils to meet and approve new grants!

Looks like today's NINDS council meeting was canceled...

On Wednesday morning, NIH leadership distributed a memo, obtained by Popular Information, acknowledging that its funding freeze was illegal and directing staff to resume issuing grants. www.meco.app/share/69fd79...

Proud to share our latest published work on moisture responsive root development-a process we call hydropatterning! We find that this process has been under differential selection during maize breeding and the gaseous hormone ethylene prevents branching in air. www.science.org/doi/epdf/10....

Cuts to the NIH are a strategy to strangle research universities not “reduce waste”

On changes to #NIH indirect rates, there is a law in place that prohibits NIH from making such changes without the approval of Congress. See Division D, Title II Section 224 of The Further Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024 (Public Law No: 118-47) grants.nih.gov/grants/guide...
