A new study says climate change has tripled the frequency of atmospheric wave events linked to extreme summer weather in the last 75 years.

"While scientists have long predicted that as the world warms there will be more extremes, the increase has been much higher than what was expected, especially by computer model simulations" apnews.com/article/extr...

Maybe I like AI after all 😂…👇🏼

Labour is rescuing the NHS faster than anyone predicted. The latest stats show their strategy is creating tangible improvements – and a brutal reality check for the Tories and Reform. 5 undeniable signs of progress:

This is one of the best - and most terrifying - images from my bird feeder. 😬

It's never a bad time to remind everyone:

“What has been lost in a generation can return in a generation,” stressed UN Secretary-General António Guterres, calling for a move from plunder to protection, exclusion to equity, and short-term exploitation to long-term stewardship of the #Ocean. #UNOC3

Almost all the 193 member states are attending the UN Ocean Conference in Nice—but not the US. While Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse has been here, the US delegation seats are empty at the opening plenary. @pulitzercenter.bsky.social @whitehouse.senate.gov @johnmoralestv.bsky.social #UNOC #UNOC2025

BREAKING: Big news on the Ocean front. This move has been in the pipeline for some time, but it's good to see that #WorldOceansDay and perhaps #davidattenborough have pushed the UK government over the line 👏 observer.co.uk/news/oceans/...

Great overview article in @theconversation.com by @plymuni.bsky.social’s Emma Sheehan who has been leading our long term work on the ecosystem impact of an offshore mussel farm. Could be one of lowest impact form of protein production? Read on… theconversation.com/mussel-power...

I really liked this sign by a drain cover in Monaco…connection with the sea starts away from the sea!

It has been an interesting week at UN One ocean science Congress #OOSC for many reasons…not least the amazing drone show we’ve just been treated to…

All eyes are on the #EUOceanPact - which will be unveiled today. Will it finally address the urgent need for a ban on bottom trawling in MPAs? And will it prioritise low-impact fisheries to secure a future for the ocean and those who depend on it?

🔴 NEW 🔴 Nigel Farage’s “economically illiterate” clean energy crackdown would cost 60,000 jobs, knock £92 billion off the economy, and raise bills.

"Not all of the sea floor is borne the same, there are areas that hold very old carbon stores that we need to protect." PML’s Prof Ana Queirós speaks to CBC News about how #trawling can release vast amounts of #carbon, further fueling #GlobalWarming: www.cbc.ca/news/science...

Prof Martin Attrill (@martinattrill.bsky.social) has been interviewed by BBC Radio Devon, reflecting on his 40-year career as part of the Secrets of the Sea series, exploring how marine scientists are developing climate solutions. Listed now: www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... 🧪🌍🦑🌊 #Marine #Devon #BBC

Yesss! Roll on June 26…

German court has established that energy companies can be held liable for climate change damages. Given those damages are in the 10s of trillions of USD, this is potentially a massive deal. Huge liabilities for historic polluters as more cases get established.

"Seas off Cork a 'marine desert' due to overfishing of sprat, says owner of whale-watching business." Sprat, the basis of entire ecosystems, is being hoovered out to turn into fishmeal, an *insanely* wasteful process. Who or what gives them the right??? www.irishexaminer.com/news/munster...

Farage says he would pay for some multi-billion tax breaks by, among other things, "scrapping net-zero climate measures" How much does the government's main climate change department, DESNZ, spend on tackling climate change? Under £1 billion in its most recent accounts.

Most of the sprat catch is not for human consumption but is processed into fishmeal for salmon farming which is plagued with animal welfare issues. It takes 3–5 kg of sprat to produce 1 kg of salmon.

"Yeah, but global warming will be great for the UK." Ummmm...Just look at this map of marine heatwaves around the UK and Ireland right now. Sea surface temperatures are up to 4C warmer than usual for this time of year, reaching about 17C off the Irish coast. 👇 www.thetimes.com/uk/environme...

What is most sobering is that it is entirely possible that this year will be one of the coolest we will experience for the rest of our lives…

"75% fewer kids killed on 20mph roads compared to no effect on other roads". This statistic alone should lead to a nationwide adoption of the 20mph limit. How is this still up for debate?!
