The promise was change. Not enough has changed. There is no compelling plan for change. Whichever way you slice it, this is a big problem.

I feel compelled to debunk this. As someone who does translational research using human derived cell lines, primary cells etc. and someone who also understands how vaccines are developed and made, this is a FALSE and prevalent line of anti-vaccine BULLSHIT.

“Since August last year, the platform has lost 11 million European users, with the biggest exoduses reported in France (2.7 million), Poland (1.8 million) and Germany (1.3 million).” Note that this is data we have precisely because of the Digital Services Act. www.politico.eu/article/elon...

"We can't stop the boats, so let's cancel the Graduate Visa. Voters either don't know the difference or don't care." Terrible way to make policy, self-destructive as economics, and almost certainly doomed politically. Does anyone genuinely think this makes any sense?

Why are we not doing this? Never seen a more "no brainer" policy. Even people who are the most strongly opposed to immigration tend not to object to top scientists coming here.

We are proud to introduce ACS Nano Medicine, a peer-reviewed hybrid journal that will publish significant research breakthroughs in the application of nanoscience and nanotechnology to clinical diagnosis and therapeutics. Read the announcement: buff.ly/j9qZs3h

"345,000 Britons are homeless. I've got two houses, one of which was given to me for free. Somehow, I've managed to persuade The Times that this makes me a victim." www.thetimes.com/business-mon...

Kudos to the European Union for securing the 10% tariff 'Brexit benefit' four days after the United Kingdom.

Scientists love to debate and argue, but if there are 3 things every scientist absolutely agrees on, it's that: 1. Climate change is real 2. Vaccines work 3. Those are NOT dire wolves 😤 🧪

They haven't. They really haven't. Read some science and treat PR from commercial companies with skepticism @telegraphnews.bsky.social

And also, jesus, that is such a horrible window into the life as a Trump kid. Eric, noted sharp tack, can’t have gotten all the good deals you’ve got to assume.

She died in binary. That’s dedication. RIP.

The thing about all these pieces complaining about Marine Le Pen's conviction is that not a single one of them bothers to explain why someone found guilty of embezzling millions of Euros from public funds should be allowed to get away with it

Doesn’t feel like 5 years already since we had to learn to don PPE, to work in it all day & make it last because there wasn’t enough of it. People have different opinions about what did & didn’t happen. I can only say that in 27 years of practice it was the worst thing I’ve ever seen, every day.

We #SupportScience because being with the research community offers ah ha moments that can help us find our own paths. Hear from Kristin Hutchins, a 2025 ACS Women Chemists Committee Rising Star, about a moment that defined her career choice.

BREAKING: People are being suspended on X in Turkey for posting videos of these protests against Erdoğan’s corrupt and repressive regime. Keep sharing everywhere.

We #SupportScience because science creates a better world for future generations. We want to help everyone get excited about how scientists are improving our world. At ACS Kids Zone at #ACSSpring2025, kids and families learned about glaciers through cool, hands-on experiments led by scientists.

For all of the noise and the hype, the basic facts are these: Ukraine and has agreed to an unconditional ceasefire. Russia has not. And tonight, Putin keeps on bombing.

You might expect the fact that climate change denial lobbyists funded the leader of the opposition and her Shadow Cabinet, shortly before she ditched her commitment to Net Zero, would feature in at least some of the other coverage of her announcement this morning bylinetimes.com/2025/03/18/k...

"If science is to honour one of its core values — a commitment to the truth wherever it might lead — scientists must stand up when DEI matters" www.nature.com/articles/d41...

In biology, I keep thinking of the bacterial strains, yeast strains, plasmids, mouse lines, worm mutants etc etc etc that will be lost to science FOREVER because the freezers and animal facilities won't be maintained Generations of work will be lost in essentially an instant

Why do You #SupportScience? As the ACS continues to use our platform unite chemists in collective support for science, we want to hear your story and share it on our channels, including social media. Tell us why you support science. You can share openly or anonymously: buff.ly/hODagos

Andrew Neil now.... and exactly four months ago. A great example of the British Right finally catching up. Their primary objective of 'owning the libs' has hit brutal reality.

"We have chosen [private school] not because we’re evil, not because we want to buy a head-start for our children, but we want them to have as good an education as we can get." That is, quite literally, buying a head-start for your children. Not judging it. But it just is. ~AA

As Trump tries to dismantle the Department of Education, remember that his plan to cut the corporate tax rate to 15% would give the 100 largest corporations a tax cut larger than the entire department's K-12 budget. Really think about how twisted this all is.

MAGA freak on #r4today defending JD Vance by echoing far right talking points from the UK - calling migrants an invasion. Are we joining the dots yet? They want our anger directed at homeless foreigners instead of the billionaire bully boys who are looting the whole world.

This is always relevant to mention.

Right now, Kemi Badenoch is doing more to defend JD Vance than the US is doing to defend Ukraine.

Apropos of nothing: THERE WILL NEVER EVER EVER BE A CLONED MAMMOTH. <Message ends>

Forty-eight scientific societies, associations and organizations, have sent a letter, organized by the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), to members of Congress demanding that they protect federally funded scientific research and federal scientists.

Who gets to decide who is English? Suella Braverman says she has never felt English. But I always have - ever since I was fretting about whether Kevin Keegan could make it to World Cup '82. Nobody told me - when I was eight - that it had nothing to do with me! www.britishfuture.org/who-gets-to-...
