Some higher ed organizations who are loudly circling the wagons against federal funding cuts were oddly silent or circumspect about the earlier attacks on CRT and DEI. I wish there was a better understanding that these attacks are coming because we failed to repel those.

Ask how many proposals have been set aside- that the panel is not able to review or consider? How were those decisions made? Are there any currently convened panels that would refuse to consider the remainder until the rest of complete, timely-submitted proposals (no matter the topic) are included?

What can we, as academics, do about NSF & NIH that are now actively discriminating against important scientific research & scholars? My colleague, @lluaces.bsky.social, has a suggestion I really like: *don’t review for them*- at least this cycle while they are setting aside & censoring proposals.

a big thing for the very clever contrarian boys has long been what does *diversity* have to do with *science*?!?! anyway this is the 101-level answer

I have not seen posts from Harvard faculty weighing in on Claudine Gay so for what it is worth, here is one faculty opinion. I have been a professor here since 1986. She was, by far, the very best dean of Arts and Sciences we have ever had. She was fair, collaborative and yet decisive. 1/n

I'm thrilled to share that the @NextBigIdeaClub named my book, Cultures of Growth, as one of the most anticipated nonfiction books of 2024! It's going to be a great year! ✨ nextbigideaclub.com/magazine/40-...

Congrats to Jenn Richeson (@jaricheson.bsky.social) for earning APA's Distinguished Scientific Contributions award. Scholars like Dr. Richeson keep social problems such as racism & inequality at the forefront of the intellectual and public discourse. Give her a follow on Bluesky! #PsychSciSky

It was a pleasure to speak this morning about creating #CulturesOfGrowth in our classrooms @nitopconference (NITOP- National Institute on the Teaching of Psychology)! ✨. And this location is 😍. So excited to kick off the new year with this group!

The whole thing is worthwhile, but this section in particular is important to pay attention to: www.nytimes.com/2024/01/03/o...

Universities will have an even harder time recruiting women and people of color (especially women of color) into administrative positions now… this whole thing is so tragic and racist. All those DEI promises made in 2020 were so empty and it’s still shocking to see how far the white backlash goes
