We have been sleepwalking towards this day for several years. A Trump govt that ends support for Ukraine “would make the U.S. itself an obstacle to a long-term free and stable Europe. It would split the Atlantic alliance, and European states have not prepared themselves for that possibility.”

OK, enough with the snow. Can we have spring please?

We launched a series on beavers earlier this week, which has us thinking about our HBC at 350 series from 2020. Revisit @stacynationknapper.bsky.social's intro to the series here: niche-canada.org/2020/11/02/h... #envhist #cdnhist #HBC

I know we're supposed to be waving Canadian flags today, but it's winter here; in SWON there's a snowstorm, and many of us, if we can be, are tucked inside keeping warm looking out at the snow and listening to tunes. So here is a flagging of musical Canada www.cbc.ca/music/read/t...

PhD comprehensives done? Check. Deeply appreciative of the thoughtful questions and feedback and incisive challenges but would expect no less from such a savvy team of examiners. Thank you all, & thank you @westernuhistory.bsky.social for the opportunity of this learning experience. #historyrocks

This is a great piece.

We’re excited to share that @maryeb.bsky.social's story about Judy Peterson—who helped create a national missing persons DNA database after her daughter went missing over 30 years ago—has won silver for Best Feel-Good Story at the Canadian Online Publishing Awards! broadview.org/dna-missing-...

This is so great! Thank you #mastheadmag! And thank you for all your support @broadviewmedia.bsky.social! And thank you Judy for sharing your experiences with me!

I am really trying to keep my postings about the U.S. government (aka Trump and the gang and NOT regular Americans, a few of whom are family members) to a minimum, but this story was just too difficult to resist posting. Sorry in advance: www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

All of a sudden history and historians are gaining a fresh importance www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

Sorry Bluesky, but here is a Canadian-owned social media platform under development: waitlist.spaces.ca

Along with dropping U.S. streaming services, I'm looking at giving up American-owned search engines. So far, I've found Qwant. It appears to be governed by European privacy laws, which could be a good thing. Anyone familiar with it? Used it?

As I near the end of my (much delayed) PhD comprehensive exams, a certain American politician seizes the reins of his country's power. Do you think, if I asked him, he'd delay for another two weeks? I really need some sleep. #noreliefbeforetheterrorstarts

ONT's conservation authorities' history is rooted in local collective efforts to tackle environmental problems. SW Ont. figured prominently in pioneering this form of local enviro governance in Canada. Today, they could help tackle #climatechange but need more autonomy & $ to do so, not less.

Today! You should come, if you are in #ldnont

Incoming U.S. Pres. Donald Trump's disturbing comments about annexation of Canada and using economic force is an act of aggression. We need to react accordingly. Our politicians to set aside political differences and create an all-party Union government as Sir Robert Borden did in 1919.

My account seems to be popular with bots.

This is a super and contextual reflection on the idea of North American borders prompted by Trump's tiresome 51st state jokes that aren't jokes.
