It also doesn’t change the truth.

Field Sparrow In a gentle moment...

The Syrian Arabic word for a hamster is أبو جراب (abu jrab), where jrab refers to a pouch/saddlebag/tote. And abu often means “father of,” but can also function as a general honorific (like “mister”). So it’s not too big a stretch to say the Syrian Arabic word for a hamster means “Mister Saddlebags”

An innocent man, picked up by “mistake,” must not be allowed to rot in an El Salvadorian jail. Mr. President. Obey the courts. Obey our Constitution. Bring him home immediately.

Narcissus ‘Thalia’ my favourite, I plant in almost all my designs. We lost a lot in the wet winter a year ago unusually but plenty have returned. I’m not going to add more bulbs, just watch and see how they multiply themselves over the years. #wildway

True story.

idk who needs to see this but here is the photo that appears on the american pika's wikipedia page

One of the most disheartening experiences for me over the past 80 days has been the shattering of the illusion I harbored that academia (particularly wealthy private institutions filled with smart people) would uphold and fight for the ideas and values we cherish.

These huge proposed cuts to the NASA budget would cancel all but two astrophysics missions, kill spacecraft going to Mars & Venus, close NASA Goddard, and much more. They would devastate space science, not just in the US but globally. 🔭🧪 arstechnica.com/space/2025/0...

🌱 Oh, so cool! We have mourning doves making a nest on top of the pile of gardening supplies I have out on my balcony in prep for filling up the railing planter boxes. They were not there yesterday, but today there's one sitting on a starter nest and her mate is bringing her twigs-n-things. 😁

Many in the PNW consider grape hyacinths to be an aggressive weed, but I love them, as do all the bees. They provide food when not many other flowers are open. Just a short burst in spring & then they are dried up and gone for another year. Mine are kept in check by gophers. 🌱 #inverts

Ever used this purple dead-nettle for cooking? 🌱

Catmint is in its early spring finery. 🌱🌸

And this is why countries are dumping their U.S. treasuries and dollars.

For UK peeps not following climate science across the pond, these came yday: An executive order to override state energy laws that mention climate: www.whitehouse.gov/presidential... Ending one $4M grant to study climate because it "focuses on alarming scenarios" www.commerce.gov/news/press-r...

The ability of people to access federal programs should not be a function of whether federal administrators personally like or dislike a state's governor. www.huffpost.com/entry/janet-...

When biomedical science and global health face existential threat, by @daltmann.bsky.social @angierasmussen.bsky.social @natrevimmunol.bsky.social www.nature.com/articles/s41... "The attack on some of us is an attack on all of us, and we must stand together."

The White House just removed the only public database showing how federal dollars are approved for spending - despite a law requiring it. We’ve lost a key tool for transparency and oversight.

90% of the 238 migrants sent to brutal prison in El Salvador have NO criminal record.

Many medical supplies are manufactured outside of the US. I would buy additional KN95, N95 and KF94 masks now, as well as any medical supplies you regularly rely on. Even basics like bandages, Aquaphor, medicated lotion and pimple patches. Order that stuff asap.

Rand Paul: "The whole [tariffs] debate is so fundamentally backwards & upside down. It's based on a fallacy & the fallacy is this: that somehow in a trade, someone must lose. That somehow when you trade with someone, someone is taking advantage of you... I have a trade deficit with my grocery store"

zone 5b🌱 A really great website! Here's a way to track the Monarch's northern journey so far this spring. I was amazed at the sighting in northern IL this early! mothernaturesapprentice.com/monarch-butt...

We seem to have survived the freeze! 🥳🌱

This is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the man mistakenly deported to El Salvador with no criminal record. He has a wife and three children. His family is waiting for him to return home to Maryland, but at this point, it’s unclear if this will happen. He is only 29 years old. This is a travesty of humanity.

@uk-yankee15.bsky.social Any chance an offshoot of the talk.uk-yankee.com website that appears moribund?

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

I just tried it. Didn’t work.

NO criminal records for at least 75% of the people sent to brutal El Salvador prison- possibly for life

Musk Said No One Has Died Since Aid Was Cut. That Isn’t True. - By @NickKristof www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Do not normalize children dying from measles. Measles was previously eliminated in the US, thanks to vaccines. When children die from measles, it means that adults have catastrophically failed to protect them because they have rejected basic science.

ICYMI: The polar vortex likely ended early this year, the second-earliest seasonal breakdown since 1958. Its disruption may raise the odds of colder-than-usual weather in early April across parts of the eastern U.S., northern Europe, and Asia. Learn more: www.climate.gov/news-feature...
