#TCMParty - a bit behind, just finished “The Kid.” It’s brilliant, even more so given Chaplin wrote the score.

#RCMParty What’s frustrating is they slam the movie to s halt for a song written for Eliza’s father because he was a British treasure; they let Rex Harrison carry a microphone around disguised as a book or a bust. But they wouldn’t use the young women with the amazing voice who created the role

@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com The Know-Nothings, who were intensely anti-immigrant, were one of the political parties that came together to become the Republican Party in 1860. Believe me, if they could have excluded immigrants, they would have. Tho FWIW, up to 38% of the Union Army was Irish.

@lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com You guys don’t understand - what Trump wants with the jet is GOLD PLUMBING. Probably chandeliers too. I’ve seen a Saudi plane. They have the same taste he does. No way is he getting that stuff on an American plane made for the president.

@twwarchive.bsky.social @lawrenceodonnell.msnbc.com There are some great West Wing episodes about gifts - the one about blubber, one that involved a Taiwanese flag - clips from either could put that Qataran plane in context.

#TCMParty Good night all - it’s been a nice evening.

#TCMParty We first saw South Pacific when I was almost 10 and my sister was 8. It was when they just kept running the film and you could stay. We had to watch the beginning again because she was so upset that John Kerr “died” and I had to show her he was still alive.

#TCMParty When they started making South Pacific a film, the studio said Liat had to be played by a white girl. Hammerstein responded, well, we don’t HAVE to make it a movie. Liat was played by France Nuyen, who was Vietnamese but raised in France. (She was also in Joy Luck Club.)

#TCMParty Running behind everyone else - just realized that was Jacques D’Ambiose (principal dancer NY ballet, in 7 Brides and 7 Brothers) in the beach dance.

#TCMParty Frank Sinatra originally played Billy Bigelow until he walked off the set (they filmed every scene twice) - I would have loved to have seen that.

#TCMParty Rod Steiger was one versatile actor!

#TCMParty I can’t see Billy Budd without thinking of Cheech and Chong at the drive-in.

#TCMParty I just saw the weirdest bleeping thing Fred Astaire ever He was in yellowface, down to the taped eyes, and … well, it was real fricken’ weird. (Ziegfeld Follies).

#TCMParty I don’t know who else is still awake, but this movie is hilarious.

#TCMParty When I was a senior in high school I got to interview Sidney Poitier for the paper. He strode in the room and jumped unto the teacher’s desk between my co-editor and me and I thought I was going to die. And then he spoke with that beautiful accent. I could not say a word. OH my.

@tcmparty.bsky.social The slap heard round the world.

@ayman.msnbc.com Regarding Abrego Garcia: At the end of Judgment at Nuremberg, the German found guilty tells the American judge, played by Spencer Tracy, he never thought it would “come to that.” Tracy responds, It “came to that” the first time you sentenced a man to death you knew to be innocent.

#TCMParty I saw this movie only a few months ago, and it was not frightening then. It is now.

#TCMParty My smart tv suddenly won’t let me play Direct TV, all thru ATT - and that’s how I get TCM. I was looking forward to today’s movies. ARGH!!!
