The wages of the richest 1% have skyrocketed 182% since 1979.  Meanwhile, the wages of the bottom 90% have seen just 44% growth.  Trickle down economics was always a hoax.

#JournalismJobs @charlotteobserver.com is hiring an investigative reporter with a track record of holding officials accountable by unearthing the impact of their actions. buff.ly/tZ2Pwr3

More proof, still being ignored by conservatives, that tax cuts aren't prudent fiscal policy.

I suspect the people who voted "for change" are not aware of much of the below. Except the eggs.

Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation

This is insane. If you wonder why some of us think the rule of law is about to fall, it's this. The U.S. Attorney for DC is not "President Trump's lawyer" and its job is not to "protect his leadership" nor prosecute people who "refuse to put America first".

Shades of 2005-08. Real estate industry gaslighting on "The American Dream." Shoddy construction means costly repairs as systems, materials break down. Slack rules on building in high-risk areas means rising insurance costs. We have F'd ourselves. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

I plan to use my $5K (or whatever) so I can research cancer. Or maybe I’ll pay national park staff. Oh, wait, I’ll mail out Social Security checks. And run the IRS.

No, but if you’re looking for one, I am aware of a guy you work with that was indicted four times and convicted of thirty-four felonies.

If a woman had 13 kids by four different men, used ketamine and spent all her time running a shadow presidency, I’m not sure our society would celebrate her.

You think he was drunk when he said it?

Interesting new word for our times - autogolpe. "...literally a “self-coup” - when a legitimately elected leader uses his position to seize total control, eliminating legal and constitutional restraints on his power." Via @pkrugman.bsky.social

Where are our elected representatives? A 25-year-old named Marko is rewriting the codes that pay Social Security, etc. What happened to "won't touch Social Security"?

Musk has had no problem naming individual federal employees he thinks should be fired (see article). Now he wants anonymity and zero oversight for his officials who are creating a constitutional crisis. donmoynihan.substack.com/p/fake-jobs-...

"One Trump official, who was not authorized to speak publicly, said Mr. Musk was widely seen as operating with a level of autonomy that almost no one can control." Is anyone in the GOP paying attention? www.nytimes.com/2025/02/03/u...

Can someone please explain why this, plus the FBI ousters, plus the EPA firings, etc., is not a coup? Again, Trump is Musk's "useful idiot." www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

How odd that when Trump announced his “deal” with Mexico he failed to mention that the US committed to halting the flow of assault weapons from the US to Mexico. Why did he leave that out?

Patel: All F.B.I. employees will be protected against political retribution.” Reality: The Trump administration is set to expand a purge of career law enforcement officials. Tillis: Lying to us is cool.

Trump is an evil man.

We knew Trump was Putin’s “useful idiot.” Now looks like Trump is Musk’s “useful idiot.”

To help people understand how much of a threat is taking place: The United States Justice Department leadership appears to be outright breaking the law to fire career civil servants for Trump. One person - acting FBI Director Brian Driscoll - is heroically staying true to the law.

So this stuff is scary: “ … you will carry out the orders of the president …whether they’re lawful or not.” www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

If you weren’t clear: a President ordering a Federal health and disease agency to delete pages on its website is a public health crisis.

It's Pritzker and AOC who get it so far. Who else?

Great analysis by Krugman. The destruction of the North American economy? open.substack.com/pub/paulkrug...

I’m shocked to think …

My read: Trump is throwing a lot of spaghetti at the wall to see what sticks, knowing some won't & betting some gets through. GOP knows not to reject EVERYTHING or they'll be on Kash Patel's enemies list. Hugely scary and not worrying enough people: destroying the civil service.

Isn't this a perfect example of "the weaponizing of government," which this memo says the move is aimed at ending? Whatever they say it isn't, means it is. Whatever they say it is, means it isn't.

But they’ve probably gone back to paying no attention.

And maybe ask their local police officers as well.

Meanwhile, here in NC, a sitting state appeals court judge hopes the activist judges on the heavily GOP Supreme Court will throw away 60,000+ legally cast votes - but only in the election he narrowly lost. Not the elections any GOP candidates won.

shoutout to the dudes who insisted that a vote for harris was a vote for endless war. you crazy for that one!

Hard to stop laws being passed when you’re in the minority.

Well, good to know it wasn’t just this out of towner who had to stop and ask some lounging cops.

That’s a relief! The power of the State will not be used against political opponents!

Should I keep watching? Pro – it’s important to know WTF he’ll try to do. Con – I m getting queasier and queasier.
