President Carter is barely in the ground and these pillocks are subverting his legacy. Atlantans know he would have been ENTIRELY in support of Brian’s book and the other authors whose events at his library have been cancelled.

Sergeant Gonell @sergeantaqgo.bsky.social sent me this picture. This is his call log. Each call is an automated Dept of "Justice" notification saying "The defendant you testified against is being released from the dept of corrections." Each defendant assaulted him.

1st: vaccines work 2nd: social media companies developed their OG vaccine policies in response to *outbreaks like this* in Samoa & Bklyn. Not COVID! They boosted good info. They labeled false claims. That got redefined as “censorship” by ppl who profit from lies. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/22/u...

Good summary of the sweeping cuts that are dismantling US government. Truly nihilistic stuff. As always useful.to see what the future could be for us all if the fascists make further inroads into our shaky democracies 😭

OMB director Russ Vought has officially begun carrying out his section of Project 2025. Technical thread to follow, but it’s really important - this is a major path through which the Trump administration will illegally impound funding, refusing to carry out some of our spending laws.

We can't afford air traffic controllers, but we can afford a $200 million government ad campaign thanking Trump. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

Well worth the read. This is a stark - and dark - recap of the hell the US finds itself in.

Farmers hit by a federal funding freeze scramble to respond ahead of spring thaw: Many farmers made investments based on Agriculture Department funding that the Trump administration has put on hold. Some are in financial peril. #FAFO www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...

No matter how preposterous, the Times headlines nearly every Trump story as if it were written by the White House comms team.

There have never been kings in America. The monarchy doesn't start now.

One of the coolest ecological restoration projects in the whole country comes to an abrupt stop due to federal funding freeze. chicago.suntimes.com/outdoors/202...

This is climate arson, yes, but also the entire value proposition of Tesla, the reason for its insane stock price, is that it would end up the Amazon of electric cars: the only real game in town. Killing off non-Tesla electric car infrastructure is a gift to Musk.

lolololol [breath] lol

Federal workers launch a new site to share inside information about DOGE

In the 2014-15 H5 outbreak in the Midwest (egg layers, turkeys), there was speculation the wind transported plumes of virus that boiled up from heavily infected properties, such as layer farms that contain millions of hens.

This is the part of "bring back the 90s" that I would endorse (read thread)

Just caught up to this postponement (was on deadline, see yesterday's post on bird flu). The ACIP is an advisory committee to the CDC that touches almost all vaccine formula and use recommendations, so, seems unnerving. It would be nice to think the postponement is due to chaos, and not nefarious.

They blink a lot. They lose in court too. They are even feeling some pressure from within the party. Things are bad, but not hopeless.

The US has not shared flu data with the WHO since January, sparking concerns ahead of key vaccine strain selection. Experts warn this could impact global flu vaccine effectiveness for the Northern Hemisphere. 🦠 🛟

Public lands are one of the few remaining great equalizers of America’s increasingly ultra-wealthy-centric economy. This would be the death knell for hunting and fishing access, for hiking, cycling, and other forms of rec. It would be a great betrayal of our obligation as stewards of that land

hey @support.bsky.team, any progress on DM problems? Still getting "Whoops! Bad token" when I try, and any sent to me never arrive.

Texas banned abortion in 2021. Then the rate of sepsis shot up more than 50 percent. This is exactly why data collection and analyses are critical. Important reporting from Lizzie Presser, @andreasuozzo.com, Sophie Chou + Kavitha Surana: www.propublica.org/article/texa...

I don't think the Dems can stop the firings. But why aren't they proposing legislation that assures those that took the buyout get paid , and that all that are fired, get at least a year severance and health benefits? And any one with a health condition is covered the entire time they are sick?

In “Bird Flu in Cows Is a Slow-Motion Disaster,” FERN’s latest publishing partnership with The New York Times op section, science journalist and FERN contributor Maryn McKenna describes the frustrating limits on what the government is doing — and can do — to stop the spread of bird flu in cattle.

"There may well be normalcy again. But it lies on the other side—not in accommodation to this malevolent insanity, run by lackeys and toads. The risk of overreaction is trivial compared to the risks of accommodation." www.nplusonemag.com/online-only/...

Did the @nytimes.com really quote the mf-ing communications director of the Houston YOUNG REPUBLICANS as if he were just some random young Black person who likes Trump? Cause it sure looks like it.

WHAT

A few people have kindly lobbed this into the tl, but here's my own gift link: Me, in NYT Opinion, arguing we're not failing to handle H5N1 flu in cattle because the response is based on plans for bird flu in poultry and doesn't match dairy farming structures. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/20/o...

This is an extremely interesting analysis.

The official White House Twitter account is now referring to Trump as a king. No, this is sadly not a joke. This is a violation of an emoluments clause and is an impeachable offence.

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

🗣️ @aoc.bsky.social out fighting for the people & federal workers: “Every day our job is to wake up and say ‘what can I do today?’ — There is no act too small. Every action matters.” 🇺🇸

Long Covid is no longer a government priority.

Read the thread and decide for yourself who is the hero. Is it the person framing themself as one?

NEW: Two weeks ago gov't IT experts warned us that the worst case scenario would be if DOGE got full admin access to agency systems. We can report at at least one agency DOGE has unfettered "god mode" access. Our latest: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...
