DFW 🛫🛬 Indy 📍 NFL Combine Annual trip incoming... --

Rams running a B-gap pressure vs. the Seahawks' same-side single-back Power. --

Rams running 1-Lurk (LB = Rat) vs. the Seahawks. --

MatchQuarters' Cool Clips: Cleveland Browns' Inverted 2 vs. the Saints' Shanahan Style Offense | www.matchquarters.com/p/cool-clips... --

The Rams often use Hoecht (97) as a leverage tool in their pressures. Here's an example of them using him to pull the Packers' RG so they can get a 2-on-1 with the RB. Safety Kamren Curl (3) is able to defeat the RB & get into the face of Jordan Love. --

Here's one of the Ram's favorite ways to pressure teams on passing downs: - Boss (Load) Front - Five D-line on the field with Hoecht (97) to the RB - Internal stunt (Not) Great look at a Not stunt to get Fiske (55) open inside vs. the Packers. --

Encouragement matters!!! >> Give it out freely. 🎯🎯🎯 --

We saw the woes in Super Bowl LIX but is there light at the end of the tunnel? #ChiefsKingdom

Interesting run fit here by the Rams vs. the 49ers. Rozeboom (56) is gapped out, so when SF motions their TE, he stacks his tandem LB, Reeder (51). The 'tower' allows him to hang deep, identify the RB, & freely work to him as he attacks the edge of the box. --

Rams running Cover 8 (HQQ) with a Trix (Poach) Safety backside. Lions' QB Goff doesn't see the Safety & targets the Cross, leading to an interception. --

The Browns' Denzel Ward & Grand Delpit are still playing at a high level. Newsome started taking a step back late last year, & Emerson fell off a cliff this season. Cleveland has major concerns, but most would agree that the talent is there. | www.matchquarters.com/p/cool-clips... --

Rams running their CB blitz version of Storm vs. the Lions. Typically, this will be from a C3 pre-snap rotation with the Safety going. Post-snap, the defense rolls to a Cover 2 (inverted away from the pressure). Teams can check the CB vs. condensed alignment or game plan. --

Rams running Fangio's 'Storm' concept, but checking the pressure to the CB. Typically, you would see the Safety spin down to simulate Cover 3, only to blitz the edge. This version allows the LA to hold their two-high shell but get into the same concept. --

» Do NFL teams play field & boundary? Yes, many zone-heavy teams are starting to play with a 'boundary' CB & using collegiate language. Here's an example of the Commanders in Big Nickel playing a field/boundary concept. The passing strength of the Ravens is up top. —

Cleveland's backend production has to be a concern moving forward. Schwartz's defense led the league in man coverage last year, & their coverage woes are a complete 180 from when they were one of the most dominant units in football. | www.matchquarters.com/p/cool-clips... --

Rams running weak rotation Cover 3 vs. a Mesh (Drive) concept by the Lions. Nice job by the field LB (Reeder) to identify the crosser coming to him & playing down on top of it. --

More NFL defenses in light box situations & when running MOFO coverages utilize a head-up Nose (2t). Good look at how the 'lag' concept reacts to a Mid Zone (off-tackle) by the Lions. Young (0) does a great job setting the edge, allowing Reeder to rip under his block. --

Man coverage = penalties & PBU's This is why you should teach penalty avoidance as a defensive back coach through good technique. | www.matchquarters.com/p/colorado-b... --

Rams running Base 8 with the Cover 2 side going to the Lions' St. Brown. This concept can be run across most of the Rams packages & can even be used in a 'Zeus' call that rotates the Cover 2 side to a star receiver. --

Rams running a Boss (Load) Tex (T-E) vs. the Lions. The Nose (Fiske/55) pulls the Center as he stunts across his face, creating a nice ally for Young (0). --

MatchQuarters' Cool Clips: Cleveland Browns' Inverted 2 vs. the Saints' Shanahan Style Offense. It was a rough year for the secondary in Cleveland, but there were flashes of brilliance at times. | www.matchquarters.com/p/cool-clips... --

Eventually, San Jose State quit jogging the RB from Pistol. To counter this, UNLV used field or boundary tags, even running this 'tower' concept with a lag Nose. --

UNLV setting their Leo (Jack) as the 3 tech. to the boundary & then running an internal twist stunt (Not) vs. San Jose State. --

Don't turn Fade routes into track meets! Get into the body of the WR & press to the sideline. | www.matchquarters.com/p/colorado-b... --

UNLV setting their Leo (Jack) to the RB against San Jose State & getting into a Double Exit (E-T) with the Leo wrapping to contain from the boundary. --

When he described his defense, UNLV's Barry Odom took the term 'multiple' seriously. Each game was a curated scheme to counter the offenses the Rebels saw. Against San Jose St. UNLV, he used his Leo (Jack) to create four-down fronts, even adding stunts like this Tex concept. --

Annual mission statement release: Help everyone, from casual fans to seasoned coaches, think differently about the game of football & simplify the complex. The goal is NOT to make you a clone of Aranda, Fangio, Saban, Smart, Venables, or anyone else but to give you ideas. --

UNLV using their hybrid OLB to create different front structures in their Odd Stack vs. San Jose State. This style of play is a common way for Odd Stack teams to get into multiple fronts without wholesale change. --

UNLV blitzing the Safety to the Wing side (YY) vs. Boise State. One concept the Rebels used against these formations was to blitz the Safety to the RB. In both cases, the movement ends up 'feeding' the Broncos' zone. --

Three Coverage Concepts That Helped Win the Super Bowl | www.matchquarters.com/p/three-cove... --

UNLV is running a Cross-Dog five-man pressure to the RB (Spike) vs. Boise State. Instead of 1-Rat (typical), The Rebels Safeties are playing 'City' or 'Alert' coverage to the TE. Whichever side he goes, that Safety has him man-to-man while the other closes the Post. --

UNLV with a popular off-ball Sim vs. Boise State. Rebels are 'floating' the Center with the Nose working to the B-gap & the Mike working a 'Cross' blitz (V-Tech). DE to the 3t is the 'flex' defender & is action-to-coverage & can fold with any puller to add numbers. --

Colorado Buffaloes CB DJ McKinney's Soft Press Technique CU ran the fifth most snaps of Cover 1 in the FBS in '24, mainly due to their talent in the secondary. Travis Hunter rightfully was the focus. Meet DJ McKinney, his 6-2 counterpart. | www.matchquarters.com/p/colorado-b... --

UNLV sending a Safety blitz opposite the Wing (YY) vs. Boise State. Nice way to create movement into the four-man surface (feed) with a back-stop from the blitz for any cut-back. --

Overload pressure by UNLV vs. Oregon St. The path of the DB (0) working outside to get the RB to commit is what makes this pressure. Once the RB attempts to fan outside, he darts back to the open lane, leaving the RB out-leveraged. Nice job by the Safety (1) to track the QB. --

Three Coverage Concepts That Helped Win the Super Bowl | www.matchquarters.com/p/three-cove... --

UNLV going from a closed-post pre-snap contour to Tampa post-snap vs. Oregon State. Field CB does a nice job of showing a bail, then snapping into a catch technique. Once he identifies the slant, he stays on top, compressing back to the line of scrimmage & playing the ball. --
