i hate to e-beg and have to become a mouthpiece about hearing loss or whatever, it's really dumb but I've visited clueless people who tell me and god knows how many people i'm too young to experience any hearing issues because they were cheap. it's frustrating.

the AGI shit is really scary when you think of it from both a material and a spiritual viewpoint, it's the messiah here and he's going to come down any time. any time. just wait for it.
- ah fuck, the Thiel cabal of morons are figuring out the surkov model of oligarchy.
anyway it's coming.

thing is, your thinking of monotonous activities is compeltely incompatible with sam altman's (and by proxy that entire industry's) idea of monotonous activities. creative fields are replaceable and monotonous to them because because you're not willing to enslave into their cult.

it's been barely useful for maths, absolute garbage for building sites (because i tried fixing someone's mess before they told me they got it from chatgpt) and if you don't want it to tell you to put glue on pizza you have to do some gymnastics. what a deeply fucking stupid industry.

i used to be really indifferent and even welcoming to ai art, for one because illustrators and writers were vocally rallying for harsher IP protections as a result, failing to understand they are in the only creative fields who get IP actual protection because they own what they make.

and i say something deeply cynical and anti social because the most functional generative ai is trying to achieve is
- textfucking
- make images of said textfucking
- poorly put together a bunch of shit from stackoverflow
might as well bring back yahoo answers if we need something useless. gross.

i have hearing impairments, i take a look at research forums but it gets diluted with "i've asked chatgpt for this" - it's all shit, distorted information barely in line with something 3 years out of date. you have to fucking read a paper. worst - "once we achieve AGI we will be cured!" fuck no!

i sort of came to yap about this after trying to work with myself, a very young relative and a very old relative (and failing) - boredom is really, really good. the best things you're ever going to make come out of boredom.
comment in response to

this sounds like doom and gloom and that we should be running for our lives, but we all have to make or look for something mindless eventually. the actual thing here is just how the mother of invention was boredom and we figured out how easy it is to never be bored again

also, a lot of people throw "watch Century Of The Self" on this and take that edward bernays is the culprit of all of it but completely miss that the hippie zeitgeist welcomed consumption as an identity with no hesitation. we don't have much qualms about making "slop" to get the bag either.
comment in response to

what i think is the takeaway here is that it works on everyone. there's hours of passive consumption waiting to parasitically latch onto the things you hold dear and one day we will look at content farms and think "goodness we truly fucked up!" and know this was pandora's box

say, ai cat videos and "the fall of racistpedophile52" scratch an itch that other pablum wouldn't. it's all about endangering a child in some form but more dangerous for it is to turn off the screen and face the vulnerability of silence, the dream is over and theres nowhere else to go

it fucks up my line of work. i'm a musician, sound designer and sound engineer on the side. missing high frequencies on my left ear compromised a lot of this, if it goes kaput it's all so over for me
