I asked a student today which of these fractions was not equal to 1/2. He said, "It has to be one of those with a 3 on top--they can't both be 1/2" I'd never heard that before.

I’m a scientist working on dark matter and neutron stars and I wouldn’t be who I am today without Langston Hughes, Duke Ellington, Haile Germima, Toni Morrison, Jane Austen, A.A. Milne, Errol Morris, Star Trek, Herman Melville, Lorna Simpson, Edward Lear, Tina Turner, and so many others.

Children don't hate math! What they hate is being confused, intimidated, and embarrassed by math! Just because many adults had this experience in school doesn't mean we can't change the narrative for our students now and in the future! #Math #MathTeacher #ITeachMath #MathIsImportant

Hi friends! I have a book coming out next month! It is full of *gorgeous* photos such as seen on the cover here. There is one really fun photo that didn't make it into the book...

Highly recommend, especially if you’re doing lessons on orders of magnitude.

Let’s play around with cosmic distances shall we? Because I don’t think the human brain can actually understand it. But I’m gonna use rice, and say 1 grain = 10,000 miles (~16,000 km). That means the circumference of Earth is just under two and a half grains. These contain all our lives 🧪🔭 (1/n)
