Liked this piece about Frank Lloyd Wright's Arizona work and sustainable architecture. Probably not scalable, and Wright's designs had their issues, but worth a look: www.bloomberg.com/news/feature...

Awful news. John exemplified the idea of a being a "literary citizen," constantly supporting others' work ahead of his own. RIP.

Didn't have "Kyle Schwarber stolen base attempt" on my Opening Day bingo card.

This is a really fun thread!

Best of luck to everybody competing today on Opening Day/at AWP.

My God, my God, why have you DFA'd me?

Your Opening Day reminder that "Field of Dreams" is a Christ allegory.

Happy #OpeningDay to all who celebrate.

Pete Hegseth TIME NOW (1144et): Weather is FAVORABLE. Just CONFIRMED w/CENTCOM we are a GO for mission launch. JD Vance I will say a prayer for victory Dan from Vibrant Tone PR Hey all, just circling back around about those songs I sent last week. Would love for you to cover them on your website

On Thursday morning, he will deliver one last “Perspective” on WGN Radio, home to his weekly commentary segment for the past decade, and perhaps conclude the final chapter of a storied Chicago broadcast career.

I received my copy of a new songbook by Robbie Fulks. I like its homemade quality — and the copyright notice. You can buy it here: www.robbiefulks.com/new-products...

There's a road I'd like to tell you about... Weird to see this headline while I'm finishing up this LSD design. RIP Ted Ailotta and thanks for this absolute banger of a song.

Probably against my better judgment, I lurk on a few MAGA groups. If you thought l'affaire de Hegseth would move the needle, it ... hasn't.

Alright let’s do the damn thing 🧵 Background: This event was presented as a public town hall and then non-registered Republicans were barred from entry. Republicans involved claim in was a private event, but this was the flier for it.

RIP Ted Aliotta. All members of Aliotta Haynes Jeremiah are now dead. Meaningful news to a particular kind of Chicagoan from a particular stretch of time. www.cbsnews.com/chicago/vide...

Email from a self-published author invites me to review a novel "which will upend the world of abortion, end practice with the Abortion Pill, end the trafficking in aborted fetal body parts for profit, and bankrupt, if not destroy Planned Parenthood as a medical entity and political force."

Omg I thought they were competent this changes everything

A tick late on this, but I'm watching "Oppenheimer" and how did Matt Damon not get a lifetime achievement award from the Razzies for this?

I'm into it.

I can go on all day about my favorite writers. But as for writers "who made me," I dunno, it was mainly unsung arts and sports writers for the local paper. Five publications that made me makes more sense, so: Chicago Tribune Chicago Sun-Times Chicago Reader Spy Village Voice

Me in WaPo on Emma Pattee's "Tilt," a "book-club-ready existential novel" about a pregnant woman shopping at Ikea when the Big One hits: www.washingtonpost.com/books/2025/0...

No joke. But seriously great.

"Poutine Crimes," now streaming on Paramount+.

I like my work because it introduces me to something new just about every day. Then there are days like today, when I have to listen to Sublime.

Here’s your reminder of the best thing to ever exist

RIP Jeffrey Klein. We didn't interact much when I was at Mother Jones, but if he didn't have the foresight to get MoJo on the web in 1994, I wouldn't have had a chance to become a "web intern" and sneak into journalism through the back door. www.nytimes.com/2025/03/20/b...

Just the most morally brokeass pathetic cowards. Don't hesitate to stand up to them. They're afraid of the ghost of Jackie Robinson.

Things I think novelists do just to mess with reviewers: State the narrator's name just once, on page 203, in a stray bit of dialogue.

After being told my whole life I wouldn't benefit from hearing aids, I'm road-testing a pair for the first time. It's a little overwhelming; it's like you've enjoyed a favorite movie for years and then realized it was always a touch out of focus. The world's a mess but my hearing is less so!

The what trend now?

Sad news that Rep. Raul Grijalva, a former Congressional Progressive Caucus chair, has died.
