First acknowledgement I've seen in the court system of the Florida State/ACC settlement. Haven't seen anything on Clemson yet (which I am not reading ANYTHING into, other than that paperwork takes time)

You can see why a promise of a big payday from exit fees kept UNLV in the Mountain West instead of paying a hefty to sum to go join the Pac-12.

Drake has already won the MVC autobid. Lamar is playing McNeese tonight for the Southland title. We legit could have a Drake vs. Lamar NCAA Tournament game.

Is Jon Rothstein really as fervent a college hoops fan as his online presence suggests? Or is it a carefully crafted persona that can sometimes lay it on a little thick? His wife is happy to set the record straight πŸ˜‚ http://dlvr.it/TJTtwW

How high would you rank Brian Kelly, Lane Kiffin and Deion Sanders among the top coaches in college football? Each make for interesting debates: www.nytimes.com/athletic/619...

How long until a WVU player sues, arguing a ban on TikTok dancing infringes on his ability to make NIL money through social media engagement? www.nytimes.com/athletic/619...

Ready to launch: Can Arizona State become the next Clemson? πŸ”— ‡️

Colbie Young has officially been reinstated to the Georgia football team. www.nytimes.com/athletic/619...

I tag-teamed on our ACC mailbag, including a look at 4 years of TV viewership (as it relates to the conference's new revenue-sharing model) and whether the FSU/ACC/Clemson settlement is the beginning of the end for the league. www.nytimes.com/athletic/619...

where it belongs

Been seeing several fifth anniversary pieces today on COVID. To me, the day it all stopped was a couple days later. I was at IndyCar's Grand Prix of St. Pete when, by my estimation, the last major U.S. sporting event stopped. I'll never forget it www.tampabay.com/news/health/...

I found this especially interesting to read through the college football prism. What's the cost-benefit analysis of building a new, nicer stadium vs. updating an old, historic one?

The Gators announce their new co-defensive coordinator: Robert Bala. Most recently was the LB coach at Washington. Also spent a year at Bama, among other stops

This is ... interesting

I've been wondering what the Final Four will look like in Tampa in the post-Caitlin Clark era. Well...

As he considers walking away from a stadium deal in St. Petersburg, Fla., Tampa Bay Rays owner Stu Sternberg is being pressured to sell his team by commissioner Rob Manfred and several other owners. ✍️ @evandrellich.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/athletic/618...

Big move by Bowling Green, hiring Eddie George to take over. The 51-year-old did an excellent job at Tennessee State leading TSU to its first conference championship in 25 last season. The Tigers only won nine total games in the three seasons before he arrived. www.nytimes.com/athletic/618...

Eddie George to Bowling Green is another step in the trend I wrote about last month. Rookie coaches/NFL alumni at HBCUs becoming a pipeline to FBS coaching jobs? www.nytimes.com/athletic/614...

SOURCE: Tennessee State head coach Eddie George, the 51-year old Ohio State legend, has accepted the head coaching job at Bowling Green. The hire is expected to be made official later this afternoon. Under George, TSU last season won its first conference championship since 1999.

A good look at how the ACC's settlement could help pave the way for super leagues, from our Justin Williams: www.nytimes.com/athletic/617...

Amazing

NASCAR is suing Michael Jordan's race team and his business partner, calling them (along with Front Row Motorsports) an "illegal cartel." www.nytimes.com/athletic/617...

As we wait for the ink to dry and all the settlement stuff to become super-duper officially official, let's look at the winners and losers of the ACC/FSU/Clemson lawsuits and what it all means. www.nytimes.com/athletic/617...

The most interesting quote (to me) from all the ACC/FSU/Clemson settlement stuff today: β€œWe’re way better off than where we were 14 months ago when we were being told we had no options. Now we have options.” About those options and what's next... www.nytimes.com/athletic/617...

The paperwork still has to be finalized and all that, but all 3 sides have approved a settlement to end the FSU/Clemson/ACC lawsuits. www.nytimes.com/athletic/617...

Whoooo's excited to live stream some board of trustee meetings?!

SOURCE: Former WVU and Troy head coach Neal Brown is joining the Texas staff. His title on staff has yet to be determined at UT. Anwar Richardson first reported the move.

People ask me all the time. "What do you write about in the offseason?" Now I can tell them: 2,000-word takeouts on the origins of the Pop-Tarts Bowl. This was a fun one.
