Such a gut punch. "One fired program officer in the geosciences resigned from a tenured faculty job after getting official notice that they'd been hired permanently by NSF...That officer left the job security of a tenured position "to give back to my country and the scientific community …"

Knowing number order and magnitude, and how numbers relate to each other, is as vital as phonics is to reading, experts say. But many students, especially low-income students, lack strong number sense, and it hobbles their math capabilities later on. hechingerreport.org/the-building...

Encourage campaigners to take to absorb this @moreincommonuk.bsky.social study. It finds: -progressive activists are <10% of the population -less likely to work w/ people who disagree with them -overestimate those who share their views -use inaccessible language -more likely to be stressed & sad

A number of prominent UK Conservatives' statements about Donald Trump resemble one of those news stories that begins with a magazine feature about a new age mystic who believes he can talk to bears and ends with a newspaper article about a new age mystic being mauled to death by bears.

Richard Young's 1978 portrait of the Jam outside Centre Point. Now its wildly expensive, lavishly beige apartments, a private club and residents' "wellness spa". But there's a framed print of this in the lobby, which is something.

Welcome to Trilobite Tuesday! Pictured is the Devonian-age phacopid trilobite Erbenochile erbeni. Not only does this Moroccan species feature towering 0.8-in (2-cm-) high eye stacks—each topped by a unique shading brim—but it also has a row of intimidating spines that run along its axial lobe.

There are roads that make you feel the longer you stay on them, the less certain they'll lead to your destination – not only in terms of place, but time. Roads connecting you to a sense of the land as one giant network of haunted hodology. Roads that you believe just might possess you. – #MattAdams

Well, I am considerably more happy than anyone else in my work that anyone else today.

Everyone goes on about his weirdness but he was helping to keep the world sane. His sanity was profound.

Sometimes you can tell where/when you are in the rock record if you find a particular distinctive fossil. There are lots of fossil-rich layers in the Vale of Pickering, but only one has lots of sea urchin spines. If you find these, you are in the Upper Jurassic Coral Rag. #FossilFriday

To bury & black out a river, & all connected life, must be one of the worst acts of ecological ignorance. It happened a long time ago now, nevertheless; my heart aches with sadness, my veins burn with anger. #rivers

I am a salt-hag. I know where the waves whisper loudest. I know where gulls screech secret truths. I know where to make treaty with the King-Under-the-Sea. My hands hold tide-polished treasures, my lips summon storms. Gentlemen I tell you, do not cross me. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982

A dimension often missed in the discussion around whether children should enjoy lessons is that there are 30 in a class. Not everything appeals to everyone. A lot of top-level education discussions see schooling as individual, but it’s not: it’s collective.

You know this whole ‘fun lessons’ debate is missing the fact that teenagers don’t think any of us are fun or cool 😂
