The team at @immdef.bsky.social has spent all morning desperately searching for Juli, a mom of 3 US citizens who has lived in LA for 21 years. 3 nights ago Juli was on her way to work when she was forcibly taken at gunpoint by men who in a short call to family she described as “bounty hunters.” 🧵

I've covered race for two decades. I knew the 2nd Trump Admin would be dangerous for civil rights. Yet the collapse of the federal civil rights architecture and national will to address racial inequality and work on integration is stunning. Here's my latest. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/27/m...

You have to read this. It’s a devastating overview of what amounts to a systematic attack on the Second Reconstruction. This is another “redemption” in progress, by bureaucratic means.

This is of course all being coordinated with Netanyahu's efforts inside Israel to remove and disarm prosecutors. But the essence is that Bibi didn't doing anything I haven't done too, so you have to let him go.

The fact that I’m hearing more about Mamdani than the Bill to Kill America is the reason the Democratic Party deserves its death

NOTE TO SELF: Next time google “what does this political party believe” before giving them $277 million

The most powerful members of congress used to bring home serious resources for their states. Now, they leave them in darkness.

Trump’s big beautiful bill is projected to cause over 11,000 deaths annually from Medicaid cuts, and 51,000 unecessary deaths per year if other cuts to programs like SNAP are included. This bill doesn’t help Americans, it kills Americans. 😡🤬

The long-term effects of Trump's policies are projected to translate into an 8% reduction in US GPD, a two-year loss in average life expectancy, and hundreds of thousands of deaths in the developing world annually. But at least he doesn't trip over his words the way Biden did.

We are all in this together—the fight of our lives—and we will work together for safe passage through this onslaught against the Constitution and the rule of law.

They are going to use this money to build concentration camps in the US. Call it what it is.

Trump exhibits all the major character traits associated with an early 20th century fascist, writes Christopher Clark in the SĂźddeutsche. www.sueddeutsche.de/projekte/art...

“A horrendous lack of humanity,” Brett Bruen, a former U.S. diplomat, wrote in response to the post.

I genuinely can’t find the words for how wild it is that Democrats are trying to stop a bill that will devastate red states…while red state voters are cheering it on instead of asking their Republican reps why they aren’t protecting them.

As I was saying yesterday: Talk is cheap. Be skeptical when you hear Republican lawmakers complain about the bill; doesn’t mean they’ll vote it down. Nearly all of them have cultivated a track record of caving and voting “yes” when push comes to shove.

Elon’s not wrong but for this to become political suicide then Democrats need to relentlessly politicize it.

CONFIRMED: Lisa Murkowski just caved and voted YES to advance Trump’s Big Beautiful Disaster. With JD Vance prowling the Senate floor like a fixer-for-hire, GOP leadership is scrambling to lock in the last holdouts. The billionaire bailout is now officially on life support, with a pulse.

🚨 New CBO analysis below. Looking at the immigration provisions, my read is that they project a cost to taxpayers of $172.8 billion dollars. That money is partially offset by $31.4 billion in new fees on legal immigration and tourism, plus $5.8 billion in new fees on other applications.

I understand the gerontocracy has a stranglehold on American politics, but it's wild that we're cutting Medicaid in part so we can give seniors a $6000 tax deduction just for being seniors and there's ~zero negative coverage of the issue

Ending Medicaid in order to build concentration camps. I feel, as always, there should be some kind of nonstop barrage of ads across America, every Democrat on every platform saying something like “Republicans want to end Medicaid in words to build concentration camps.”

Lake fire burns 477 acres in San Bernardino County, prompting evacuations and road closures

with all due respect to Tyler, and I do deeply respect him, I did actually foresee this *entire thing* for @heatmap.news in my first story for them almost one year ago today heatmap.news/politics/rep...

The Democratic Party is irredeemable. After we remove Trump, putting the United States on a pathway towards sustainable democracy will require a move towards a new, multi-party electoral system. The corrupt elites that led to the collapse of our democracy will not be the ones to lead us out of it.

Mmm hmmm.

Dozens of Marines are now patrolling the border near Campo, California. Not just in support roles, but shoulder to shoulder with Border Patrol. A direct challenge to the Posse Comitatus Act, which bans the military from civilian law enforcement.

they’re not gonna build the camps and then leave them empty. they’ve already telegraphed using the insurrection and the military to round people up. and it won’t just be immigrants, documented or otherwise. the EO on birthright is just the first step on the road to stripping people of citizenship

Why are people thinking this will not pass? It’s all theater. This is THE reason: looting the country. They would sacrifice anything for tax breaks.

RON JOHNSON says Trump and Senate leaders agreed to back Rick Scott's amendment to phase out the 90% Medicaid match for expansion population under the ACA. "We can't afford it," said Johnson, expressing confidence they can get the votes. Guts part of Obamacare...

11pm on a Saturday night the Senate just voted to leave millions and millions American to die

The Supreme Court and the United States Senate are fundamentally antidemocratic institutions that are not compatible with popular control of government in their current incarnations. It's not simply a matter of who serves in those institutions; both exist to block the people from having power.

Just now: disabled Tesla with manufacturer plates on Barton Springs Drive in South Austin, apparently hit from behind. Another Tesla on manufacturer plates is on the scene with responding officers. No idea what happened, was literally just walking by. Stay safe Austin!

ICE detains former staffer for California Senator Alex Padilla at airport—for packing an "Obama-Biden" campaign shirt. "Next time, I’ll think twice about what I pack. That’s not something I ever thought I’d have to consider in this country."

While I've expressed a number of disagreements w Mamdani, Sen. Gillibrand's lacerating and tendentious attacks on him just cement my longstanding belief that's she's a self-seeking opportunist of the worst order. I fully respect those who think Al Franken was right to resign. But Gillibrand ...

Democrats distancing themselves from the leadership in DC is absolutely the way to go. You love to see this!

Man, y'all gotta read this whole piece about a rally in San Antonio yesterday. Texas Democrats — led by big names — are organizing and moving away from DC and the DNC. And they're getting wild, cheering crowds.

Rep Gillen has since deleted this tweet. Just incredible how much she looks like a generic R here

BREAKING: 1 in 4 nursing homes say they will be forced to close if Republicans pass Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. No grandma should be kicked out of her nursing home so that Mark Zuckerberg can buy another Hawaiian island.

White people are truly wilding out.

THEY PUSH ALERTED THIS? DAYS LATER?!?!?

We’re supposed to believe the Supreme Court and the Senate exist to serve as bulwarks against tyranny. But, both institutions have lied down in the face of an actual tyrant (or in the case the Supreme Court, helped him). Maybe it’s time to rethink the necessity of those institutions.

It's all kayfabe

This party is torn between AIPAC and its base, and until it's prepared to actually address that contradiction, it's absolutely doomed as a political entity that can do anything but win narrowly off of Republican backlash
