Last one for tonight - the ultimate close competition

1. Created a script to simulate men's AFL games 2. Found bugs 3. Corrected bugs 4. Spawned new bugs 5. Goto 3

15 wins and a 120 PC, but no September football

Another season where they win all the close ones?

The long-unawaited MoS men's AFL sims www.matterofstats.com/mafl-simulations/2025-simulating-the-final-ladder-pre-season

Which birthdays should recruiters avoid?* (*None, of course)

Need Maxwell in the sauna at the innings break ...

Discovered today that our lovely neighbour, who we barely know, has a PhD in Physics from the University of Sydney, a fairly extensive publication history, and a professorship at a nearby university ... oh, and her own Wikipedia page

Can you cheer a worm?

We streamlined six new DID-like estimators and created this tutorial for implementation in R. yiqingxu.org/packages/fec... Hope you no longer need to spend months figuring out what these estimators are and how to use them.

Excellent piece on DRS and its different forms www.youtube.com/watch?v=p67y...

New #rstats pkg gander is now on CRAN! gander is a coding assistant that knows how describe the objects in your global R environment. So, when you're working with data, LLMs will know the names, types, and distributions of data columns, resulting in much more effective completions.

r anyone curious how my men’s AFL simulator works, I’ve written it up extensively on the blog (and provided a link to the code) Feedback and questions welcomed www.matterofstats.com/mafl-stats-j...

Here's Disney+ thoughtfully "clarifying" that "ads free" and "no ads" really now means "might contain ads"

It looks as though the simulator does a reasonable job of mimicking reality (Let me know if there's any interest in me writing it up and providing code)

MEA CULPA So, turns out I got the calculation for % of men's AFL games with at least one 5 goal streak for either team WAY wrong (I ended goal streaks when behinds were scored by either team) The correct figure is about 62% for 2024

How come I just discovered R-universe! This thing is amazing for search for #rstats material.

Recognising that it might not be best-practice data visualisation. has anyone seen a way that 2-colour arrows or lines might be used in ggplot2? It's hard to come up with 18 single colours that are discernible & evocative of just one of the 18 AFL teams. 2-colours would make it much easier #rstats
