Not the 90s rock star. A mobility planner (micro and active), a confirmed urbanist, otherwise unremarkable. Will also post about Liverpool FC and Star Trek. Toronto.

Doug Ford’s anti-bike lane Bill 212 was always bad policy, but now also seems like bad politics. PCs handily lost Etobicoke-Lakeshore last night, home of the “controversial” Bloor West lanes. And PC vote share in bordering Etobicoke Centre was basically flat from 2022. What was the point?

So now Bloor St, Yonge St and University Ave bike lanes are represented by non-PC MPPs. Seems like a pretty strong mandate to not rip 'em out from the local residents? Even incumbent Hogarth in Etobicoke-Lakeshore, who ran on a platform including removing the Bloor W lanes, got beat by the Liberal.

I'd flip this. The right has an ideologically coherent project, which is the defense of hierarchies that have dominated American society and opposition to policies that undermine them. Liberals and the left by contrast believe vaguely in helping people they feel sorry for but don't agree how or why.

The PC platform for this election was written by a car

So now the PC party platform in #onpoli is questioning the legitimacy of automated speed enforcement as it has been rolled out by cities...within the frameworks created by the Province. Aside from the blatant contradiction of the incumbents criticizing municipalities for following rules it set...

More civil society stuff like this please

I haven’t posted much since my initial outburst post account creation, but I’m feeling like if I increase my rate of cussing it may encourage me to use this more. Feels like it meets the moment. The family, Star Trek and Liverpool are the only things that don’t inspire a string of expletives.

Can someone call up the bloke who used to post NotaWolf and get that shit going again?

Unlike you, I got my news from a reliable source.

The first few days of data from New York’s congestion charge will be interesting but the real data that matters will be in a few weeks / months, not days.

Lots of weird takes here about Trudeau stepping down acting as though the Liberal party isn’t facing electoral annihilation unless something changes. It has nothing to do with what he and the party have accomplished, it’s about where they are heading in the future. He’s also made mistakes fam.

Every time the tv showed van Dijk looking miserable and pissed off today, I’m 100% certain it was because of TAA’s defending. Fucking hell. #liverpool #lfc

This showed up at our door the other day. We’re new to the neighbourhood so don’t know what the overall feeling is among neighbours but we’ve had no negative experiences in the park due to the encampments. The note was distributed by neighbours. The phrase “our park” gives me nimby vibes.

In case you missed it, this was my starter pack for voices and organizations in Canadian Urbanism specifically. I’ve been adding to it over time, so even if you explored it before, you might want to see who’s been added. And sharing it would be much appreciated! #UrbanistShoutOut go.bsky.app/QWdmJjk

If at this festive time of year you see someone driving their EV at exactly the speed limit on the hwy, or possibly drafting behind an 18-wheeler, send thoughts and prayers because that person is hoping they have enough juice in their battery to make it to the next family gathering (it’s me, btw)

Trudeau and the Liberals don’t have bad policies in general, there are fine points in that regard that are definitely open for debate. But he has lost the room and needs to step aside. Poilievre is far from unbeatable, but someone needs to go up against him with solutions that people will buy into

Heading to taekwondo with the little miss shortly (10y old). We’ve just finished our first year training together in a family class. It’s great and she loves going together. Except she insists that we stay at the same belt level!

Off for the weekend. It left late, it’s slow, but it’s still the best way to travel. #trains

Was rewatching a bit of Conundrum from S5 of #startrek TNG. At the end Troi and Ro give Riker the business for making time with both of them. But Ro came on to Riker first!

Trump used this 51st State line all the time with Trudeau in his first term. He’s doing it to rattle Canadian cages. When someone wants to you to freak out, don’t. #protip www.foxnews.com/politics/tru...

Key stats from the first half: two cups of coffee, eggs bacon and sausage, wearing #lfc hoodie, tshirt and socks, goals one for Liverpool nil for City

One thing that is a bit exhausting is seeing people criticizing one set of bonus checks from a government while embracing another set. Whether it’s Doug’s “rebate” or Justin’s “tax break”, both are awful policy and deserve equal criticism.

I already feel anxious and excited for Liverpool v City next Sunday. Such high stakes for a Dec 1st match!! #LFC

I actually agree with this. A lot of us have taken the bait on the bike lane part of this omnibus bill, meanwhile 413 will do far more long term damage than the removal of 20km of bike lanes (which is not an argument for removing those lanes, obviously). Baking in sprawl for decades.

Factually, buildings are the bigger source of carbon emissions. Emotionally, I know what is going to doom us to climate disaster is the addiction to cars. Cars cars cars. The problem is the cars.

I console myself with the image of Doug as some eldritch monster who just wants to munch on some concrete

I know Ford wants to use his attack on bike lanes to distract from the govt’s failure to address the housing affordability crisis. But we can’t let the Premier’s complete disregard for the value and safety of people who cycle go without comment. #onpoli www.thestar.com/politics/pro...

Defector is such a great episode of TNG. Total comfort watching. Great performances and twists along the way. A perfect Season 3 episode. #startrek

This is SHOCKING. Among everything else that’s despicable about this, ITS A CLEAR ADMISSION THAT THEY KNOW THAT DOING THIS WILL OBVIOUSLY ENDANGER LIVES. People rode bikes on these streets before the bike-lanes (albeit fewer) and they will again after. The inevitable blood will be on Ford’s hands.

I need to look up the definition of “doubling down”…
