I finished reading Dust, the last of the Silo series by Hugh Howey. I thoroughly enjoyed the books. It’s also good to finally have finished a series of books, as it’s been a while since I’ve done that.

Last year, I relocated my office to the back of our home with a south-facing window. I now use light themes more frequently when the sun is bright during the day. The Noctis set of themes for VS Code is ideal if you’re looking for light and dark themes in a single extension. Recommended.

Trying to stop making daily trips between VS Code and GitHub and handle pull request work within VS Code when I can.

I’m ending the week on a high with my wife’s birthday today. My wife is off to yoga this morning, and then we’ll spend a couple of hours in the garden, preparing it for the good weather. Finally, I’ll be cooking the birthday girl’s requested dinner, which is one of her favourites, chicken pie.

I see Paper Apps at the top of Hacker News (snapshot courtesy of the HN snapshot tool). I’m sure this has been posted to Hacker News before, but I’m glad to see it surface again. As much as I love paper and pen, web versions of these apps would be good, but I can see the appeal of the notepads.

I'm super happy to release Marksmith today. This is the Markdown editor I wanted in Rails since forever. Today it's here. - Seamless text input - Quick Preview - ActiveStorage integration - List Continuation - Media Library integration - MIT and ready to use

I finished reading Shift by Hugh Howey. It’s not the way I thought the series was going to go. Still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. 📚

Cracked my laptop cover so put the replacement cover I have on. On the downside I lose all the stickers I had on the old one. On the upside I get to sticker up the new one!

Good post on ditching the algorithms of social media for RSS feeds. I had no idea that Reddit allowed parameters in its RSS feeds so that you can filter the feed.

It was a disappointing end to the season for my Packers, but I’m hopeful that we’ll come back better next year. Still, there’s enough playoff football to keep me entertained over the next few weeks. 🏈

I can't imagine a worse start to a playoff game.

I finished reading Wool by Hugh Howey last night. The first book finished for this year’s reading goal and the first time in a while that I’d finished a book in just under a week. It is not a million miles from the television series but a bit faster-paced. 📚

I’ve managed to walk during my lunch hour three days in a row. I have a meeting tomorrow at lunchtime though, so I may need to reschedule my walk for the morning instead.

Walking the local trails with Jennifer this afternoon. Even on this grey and cold day, it’s still a great place to walk.

I am giving up on Instagram as a place to share photos and will now just share photos to my blog and Glass. On a post-by-post basis, I will also consider sharing photos to BlueSky and Mastodon. Instagram is now nothing like it started. It feels more like a growth platform for businesses now.

Back to work today while the rest of the house gets to enjoy the extra Scottish bank holiday for the 2nd of January. 🙁

Planning for the month ahead is enough for me: https://www.matthewlang.me/2025/01/01/planning-for-the-month-ahead.html

On the board! #GBvMIN

Right, let's try that again Packers. #GBvMIN

Replaced the key caps on my Nuphy with the Numoji set I got for Christmas. Quite a fun set!

This is a reminder from Nicholas Bate that sometimes is not forever, and there is always time. There are plenty of things I wish I had done in 2024, and I can still do them in 2025.

Did earlier versions of the Unread app for macOS and iOS allow users to change the font? I’m sure I remember earlier versions of this app being able to do this, but I don’t see the setting anywhere.

Living the high life with a turkey and cranberry sandwich, coffee, fur-lined crocs and some Netflix.

Plain text files are so underrated.

I managed a respectable 17 out of 30 on my team’s Christmas quiz, but more importantly, I introduced some team members from Spain to Irn-Bru.

Well, TickTick didn’t last very long. Front-end is too busy for my liking.

Side-projects have taken a back seat over the next couple of weeks with the run up to Christmas. Looking forward to getting back to these over the holidays.

Supercodin' to Groove Armada's Superstylin' this morning.

I downloaded Glass after seeing it mentioned in my Micro.blog timeline. I like what I see so far, so I will give it a go over the next few weeks and see if it’s something I want to keep going long-term. I do enjoy taking pictures and posting them online.

Blogging is back, again: https://www.matthewlang.me/2024/11/29/i-opened-bluesky.html

Tonight, the Lang household is celebrating Thanksgiving with the usual twist: a little turkey, roast vegetables, and Yorkshire puddings. We’ve settled down for the night with the NFL on.

Projects like EmojiRain make me glad we have developer-friendly social media platforms again.

Getting a serious early days Twitter vibe here as I start to see more #Ruby and #Rails devs posting here. Love it!

I had more fun with ThreeJS tonight. I increased the size of the board and added some trees and boulders to it. I am now at a point where I will focus more on building a representation of the board as an object to start moving my character around the board.

I continued to make some progress with ThreeJS and TypeScript tonight. I managed to draw a tiled board, move it around the screen with the mouse and be able to change my field of view with a slider.

There’s no such thing as having too many Markdown editors.

Molly White’s blogroll page is a treasure trove of RSS feeds if you’re looking to escape from the algorithm-based timelines of the big social media companies.

A couple of web development projects for the winter: https://www.matthewlang.me/2024/11/12/a-couple-of.html

After chatting with a colleague at work about a little development project he’s been working on, I now find myself messing about with ThreeJS and TypeScript. I managed to get the ThreeJS demo code working to show a spinning cube. It’s a start. The next step is to get it working in TypeScript.

My hopes for tomorrow: https://www.matthewlang.me/2024/11/05/my-hopes-for.html

Installed Tabliss for Firefox this morning. Why have I not done this before?
