Gov. Mills: I’ll comply with the state and federal laws Trump: We are the federal law. You better do it because you’re not going to get any federal funds. Gov Mills: See you in court

"I always hesitate to bring my political beliefs into this space. I don’t think my listeners would expect that from me and some of you will find it disappointing: not what you were looking for... " [1 of 2]

Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Ding ding ding

When a colonel wrote to Gen. George Washington suggesting he make himself king— founders.archives.gov/documents/Wa... —Washington instantly shot it down. "I must view with abhorrence, and reprehend with severity" the idea, he wrote. founders.archives.gov/documents/Wa... *This* is the American way.

🚨 NEW: Wow, Trump's former VP Mike Pence just called Trump out for lying about Ukraine.

It’s a coup. It’s a strategic alliance with Putin. It’s the end of the post-war international order. It’s the triumph of lies over truth and in Putin’s case, evil over good. We are through the looking glass & we all now have to decide who we are & what we stand for

Taking a wrecking ball to the federal government hurts the American people.

Today I saw flu A, flu B, Covid, Strep, seizures, cellulitis, migraines, asthma, anxiety and a swallowed penny stuck in the esophagus. I know how to recognize these, test for and treat them. They don't scare me. You know what scares me? Measles scares me. And that should scare you. #PedSky #MedSky

I am one of more than 750 political scientists who signed this statement "express[ing] our urgent concern about threats to the basic design of American government and democracy" drive.google.com/file/d/1lGk2...

"Freedom is a fragile thing and it's never more than one generation away from extinction. It is not ours by way of inheritance; it must be fought for and defended constantly by each generation, for it comes only once to a people." Ronald Reagan's first gubernatorial inaugural address, 1967

Every aspect of the Rubio-Lavrov talks in Riyadh is bad. Negotiating over the head of Ukraine indicates a sellout. Excluding the Europeans reveals indifference to Ukraine's future economic reconstruction (since the Europeans will pay the largest share).

“It is a project rooted in resentful arrogance, and its true objective is not better government, but destruction.” Good encapsulation of what we’re seeing.

This is sickening. To read this and think that the likely response from those that caused this is a shoulder shrug and a ”just the cost of doing business.” There are real human lives impacted by the senseless arrogance driving all of this.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

We need Pete Buttigieg as a clear messenger, more than ever.

Without going all Martin Niemöller here, I do think that it's bad not to speak up for immigrants, transgender Americans, civil servants, women, Ukraine, and everyone else the MAGA bullies are going after. We're beyond picking and choosing whom to defend. It's time to stand up and speak out.

Good thread

I really feel like the Bulwark people are increasingly aware that they're pretty much the only right-of-center commentators with moral values and a commitment to the constitutional order. In other words, they are classical liberals first, conservatives second, and Republicans last (or not at all).

I’m sure it’s just my TDS, but I think Trump is proving to be exactly as bad as we said he was going to be and people who acted like we were hysterical should be embarrassed they didn’t do more to try and stop it.

Exactly. Can’t grade on a made-up curve of “oh it can’t be that bad” anymore.
