Median age of homebuyers just hit a new record high of 56 (Via Torsten Slok)

"Advisers Howard Lutnick, Mr. Trump’s commerce secretary; Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent; and the billionaire Elon Musk have been encouraging" Trump to strike a deal with China. Trump is selling America for pieces to whoever will pay, in this case Chinese elites. www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/b...

A few months ago, I said Trump will cement the antitrust revolution. Today the Trump FTC Chair Andrew Ferguson and the Acting DOJ Antitrust Division chief Omeed Assefi both said that the 2023 merger guidelines will remain in force. www.ftc.gov/news-events/...

The monopoly round-up is out. Can antitrust survive DOGE? www.thebignewsletter.com/p/monopoly-r...

Is this true? I'm skeptical of the New York Post, but DNC officials doing this kind of garbage is common. nypost.com/2025/02/15/u...

As the Trump administration starts to implode, it's important to remember that Wall Street, big business, big law, and big tech absolutely threw themselves as Trump. They will regret the alliance they made.

I mean it's a very minor piece of news, but it seems like it's notably corrupt that Donald Trump has blessed the PGA Tour merger to monopoly with Saudi-backed LIV Golf. www.cbssports.com/golf/news/pg...

There's a lot of jargon in this piece, but it's a horrifying picture of what DOGE is actually doing, taking the worst parts of health care and applying those methods to everything in government. prospect.org/health/2025-...

Apparently renters have had it too good for too long.

This complaint is about how the CEO has his pay tied to diversity targets. Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson made $20.43 million in 2021. The median Starbucks employee is represented by a part-time barista with annual compensation of $12,935, which is a 1579:1 pay ratio. Diversity isn't the problem.

New lawsuit against DOGE and the Trump administration filed by 14 Attorneys General cites Musk Watch's reporting. This is the third federal lawsuit to cite Musk Watch, which only launched 3 weeks ago. muskwatch.com/subscribe

Jon Stewart talks about how the Democratic Party is undemocratic and says we must start acting like the government is the only counterweight to multi-national corporate corruption.

There is a widespread and sincere discussion in Canadian media circles about how to respond to a U.S. military invasion. They are very angry at Trump and are taking his threats seriously. theconversation.com/why-annexing...

The CFPB forwarded 20,000 consumer complaints to companies every week, with 4M total as of 2023. Often, consumers would get their problems addressed after the CFPB got involved. www.consumerfinance.gov/about-us/blo...

Corporate America and big tech are not on the Democrats side this time, unlike 2017.

ConEdison is asking for massive electric and gas rate hikes from customers, a small but not insignificant part because the utility has to pass along the costs of its workers using lots of Ozempic.

Banks need an enforcer to tell them what the rules are, to sort out disputes among *themselves.* But now Trump has done what generations of libertarians asked for but didn't really want, which was to have a world without a regulator. Conservatives caught the car. Good luck!

Just stop. I have enough to worry about.

This is a really good comment by @matthewstoller.bsky.social It's hard to imagine these guys being out over their skis but they seemingly are lurching in that direction.

Could America experience a famine? @ddayen.bsky.social and I talked to one farmer who warned us about the perils of consolidated agriculture? www.organizedmoney.fm/p/its-not-ju...

What could go wrong?

Lina Khan was right, part 823.

The monopoly round-up is out, on what it means to end the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/monopoly-r...

Trump is broadly popular as all new Presidents tend to be but this is a warning sign.

Blatantly violating the law is a central element of big tech’s business model. This is just another instance of these companies thinking they are above the law.

PG&E? ConEdison? I just did a piece on how a small group of economists are responsible for higher electricity and gas bills, as well as the massive mal-investment and incompetence of these monopolists. It's a trillion dollar scandal hidden via accounting. www.thebignewsletter.com/p/power-move...

The gang is all here

Steve Bannon calls himself a 'neo-Brandeisian' and says Lina Khan should have been given more power.

I really don’t understand why the New York Times employs Jamelle Bouie. He just doesn’t have anything to say.
