"I would simply implement progressive authoritarianism" is far too loud of an opinion on this website right now.

Yeah the elected government has a lot of Trump sycophants, but the elected government also has a lot of sycophants-by-convenience. They flatter the idiot because they think it'll be the glide path to holding office. All the videos of the past 24 hours of their booing constituents show otherwise.

Begging news outlets to stop saying “by statute” and just say “by law”.

"They can know when you sleep. They can detect when there are 2 people sleeping in the bed instead of 1. They can know when it’s night, and no people are in the bed. Imagine your ex works for Eight Sleep. Or imagine they want to know when you’re not home." You'll never guess which gov org the CEO ❤️s

Seems bad.

The University Of Cincinnati is replacing all of it's restroom signs with ones that designate use to only biological sex.

Genuinely couldn't believe this figure until I saw the Financial Times confirm it using Meta's own financial reporting data For THIS $100 billion is genuinely the kind of money you could "do the impossible" with. Crack nuclear fusion. HIV vaccine. Universal flu vaccine And they spent it on this

I don’t even care about the AI piece of this. This is just immensely rich and I’m excited to fire up Kazaa.

These people are idiots.

I think the argument was that we shouldn’t behave like authoritarians because we think authoritarianism is very bad and I think it sucks a lot that a retort to an authoritarian attack is that we should have been authoritarian first.

A lot of people typed “do my whole job” into Sam Altman’s textbox and then high-fived themselves when it didn’t do their whole job and then learned the term “stochastic parrot” and then rested their entire opinion and curiosity there for literally years at this point.

This is the message. Plenty of people support authoritarians. But nobody wants to sign up to support an idiot. They’re idiots.

“The share of Americans who disapprove of his presidency has risen more substantially, to 51% in the latest poll, compared with 41% right after he took office […] the share of Americans who think the economy is on the wrong track rose to 53% in the latest poll from 43% in the January”

Well if the internet has taught me anything since 2016, it’s that the general population has a firm grasp that p(x) > 0 is not that same thing as p(x) = 0

youll be seeing this text again at the end of act one of an Adam McKay movie in about five years

It’s even more clear that this isn’t about “waste” when you show it as a proportion of total nonfarm employment.

I talk to you every now and then I never felt so alone again

*whispers* we've got a not-great misinfo problem On Here, too

The American Dream of our parents and grandparents is now so far out of reach.

Due to lack of interest, Presidents' Day is canceled. Tomorrow we will be observing Carousel Day.

In general "posting" is a fun exercise in working on ideas in short form in public, anyone demanding you post in a specific way they want you to post or yelling at you for not posting somewhere because of "the public square" can go to hell

One of the core features of the groupchat is we all post links at each other all day. It's great, but they get lost. I want like a private group link queue. Not really a private Subreddit with upvoting or anything. Just links chronologically. Maybe bookmarking. But I don't wanna write this REST app.

An interesting document is Wikipedia's edit filter for internet brainrot which gets updated if certain meme phrases are overwhelmingly used in vandalism. It started in the yolo/swag era and has evolved to the skibidi/rizz present, regularly dropping memes that are sufficiently stale (like Harambe)

"It will be a completely carless community, and each resident will receive a free e-bike [...] The Ivory was only going to have 22 units [...] they were able to build twice as many units [...] Forty units in the building will be available to households earning at or below 70% Median Family Income"

This isn’t a fully formed thought but I’ve been thinking about the Right’s tactic of hijacking words and morphing them into whatever convenient villain they want — “woke” … “CRT” … “DEI” … They literally redefine terms to build a narrative. We can’t debate ideas when they set definitions.

Maybe an unpopular opinion but I’m totally cool with Trumpy voters permeating on Trumpy media to tell other Trumpy voters that Trump is bad.

“Texas’ permitting processes and ability to develop has made it easier to add and build new capacity in comparison to other states […] Texas’ installation of utility scale solar outpaced California’s […] As a result, solar met nearly 50 percent of the state’s peak power demand on some days.”

Stop dooming for a little bit this Saturday. Here’s a 6100-word love letter an industrial typeface.

It's kindof weird that you don't see political ads in airports. Seems like a great place to capture tens of millions of eyeballs. If I was a SuperPAC looking to spend some cash I might try to figure out how to get my pithy anti-[gestures at all of this] yard sign in an ATL terminal.
