Scientists are called on more and more to respond to questions about their results. We tried to put down some ideas for the best ways to do that based on our years of observing these interactions. Engaging is better than not, especially when science is under attack. www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

It’s beautiful work. Congratulations to all of you, @kirchhausenlab.bsky.social! And I’m personally very proud of first author Anwesha Sanyal, who completed her PhD work in my lab. My very first grad student, so she holds a special place :)

Expert's Dilemma: the more specialized you become, the less open you are to creative solutions from other fields. But the more you explore other fields, the more you risk losing credibility in your home field. Interdisciplinary work is still not really embraced by academia.

It’s crazy how talking with a science buddy is simultaneously what’s most likely to move the project forward and the thing that’s least prioritized in our schedule.

Merry Christmas and happy holidays, everyone! I ended the work year fighting a bad cold, with a cough that lingered on forever… so much so that my family gave me the gift of lozenges this Xmas 🤣 Gives a whole new meaning to Deck the “Halls”! Wishing you all good health, peace and prosperity!

Me, a public health person, just sitting over here reflecting on the fact that the US has experienced a 7% increase in infant mortality post-Dobbs. Like, do you realize what that says about this society from an ethical perspective? That we made policy choices that caused this? #PHEthx

Breaking news: A 2020 paper that sparked widespread enthusiasm for hydroxychloroquine as a #COVID19 treatment has been retracted, following campaigning by scientists who alleged the research contained major scientific flaws and may have breached ethics regulations. scim.ag/4iR9bQ6

My #Purdue BIOL 53300 Medical Microbiology class did an outstanding job on their posters today! Students were assigned articles extending from content covered in class. They also designed a "next experiment" based on their journal club article & evaluated if #AI helped refine their experiment.

Our lab continuing its long-standing tradition of celebrating Thanksgiving with the Mesecar lab. HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all of you, from the Andrew Mesecar and Seema Mattoo labs at Purdue University!

Always awesome meeting virtual friends IRL. @mattoolab.bsky.social presented really cool work on Fic proteins across domains of life. 🔥

Goodbye, Maryland! Had a wonderful seminar visit to @johnshopkins.bsky.social. Excellent science & colleagues. Was excited to finally meet @goleylab.bsky.social in person! Many thx to Doug Robinson for the invitation.

Off to deliver a seminar at @johnshopkins.bsky.social. Excited & hoping to connect w/ friends & new colleagues! Thanks to Doug Robinson for the invitation.

There have been a lot of new additions to the starter pack. If you are into any aspects of microbial cell biology or cell biology in general, now’s a great time to follow and engage with the new arrivals 🦋 go.bsky.app/L3L2iFz
