Tyranny requires your fear, your silence, and your compliance. Democracy requires your courage.

Blumenthal: "What world is he living in? It is not only contrary to the facts and the truth but utterly despicable. A disgusting betrayal of a country that has bled and fought and died for freedom ... the president's surrender is pathetic and weak."

RIP Peter Elbow

There seems to be some question about whether Trump-Musk will obey the court orders. Well, if we must obey the law, then they must obey it too, no? So civil disobedience and collective action would seem the right and just response, no?

New today in The Important Work: Christopher McVey writes about teaching writing with AI in a pilot at Boston University--and the case for inefficiency in the writing process, with or without AI. theimportantwork.substack.com/p/the-case-f...

Yes. Musk has never even been nominated for any position. This is complete rogue seizure of public power. We know that today's GOP won't stand up to stop it. So the Dems, and the majority of Americans who did *NOT* vote for Trump (let alone Musk), need to. (Trump got 49+% of vote, Harris 48+%)

Agree. Time to stand up. Oppose every single thing this corrupt and insane regime is trying to do. History will respect you. And so will we, now.

RIP. Such a wonderful artist and performer

Yeah, how about not dissolving the air safety advisory commission at the FAA. As your team did last week.

I appreciate why those appalled by the attack on Congress January 6, 2021, emphasize the violence against police that day. Trump supporters and fellow-travelers will concede that violence against police is wrong - even if they hedge with many "what abouts?" 1/x

The Important Work is here! Thanks to @spencerlanejones.bsky.social for kicking things off with a great piece about what students have to say about their AI use. Read, subscribe, and find out how to contribute at theimportantwork.substack.com/p/what-are-s...

What percentage of students are you willing to falsely accuse of cheating with AI? There is a trade-off between false accusations and detection rates for AI. At a 10% false positive rate, detectors find 80% or less of AI content. At a 1% rate most find 60% or less. Don’t trust AI detectors!
