The legality (not wisdom) of putting European private data on US clouds hinges on the availability of the US Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. Trump neutered this board, and the European parliament has taken notice & asked the European Commission what they think:

"... our relationship with America is over after 80 years ... The US has dismantled the official privacy framework. The deal is dead. So stop surrendering our society to America. Have the courage to use different software and services. Even if it takes some getting used to."

If you have a device that CAN run Apple Intelligence you need to turn this off as well as the general Apple Intelligence setting. Settings > Screen Time > scroll down to Content and Privacy > turn on Restrictions > Intelligence and Siri > turn off the first three options

💥The Netherlands' largest pension fund, has sold its shares in Tesla, Meta, and Alphabet (Google). The fund with US $569 billion equivolent in assets is "directing more money to companies and projects that help to improve society and the environment." #Divest www.reuters.com/markets/euro...

Thousands of people marched in DC in solidarity with Ukraine and against impunity by oligarchs like Trump and Putin. They gathered outside the Russian embassy. #3E #EndOligarchy #EndImpunity #USprotests #DCprotests #StandWithUkraine

From a FOIA perspective, "the entire federal workforce should write down and email what they did last week" is extremely funny

I’ve been doing a lot of research about the people being laid off at the national parks and it turns out it has nothing to do with DEI or performance. It’s a land grab so they can drill baby drill.

TFW you think you've met your new bestie.

Please don't let the reporting about the Pentagon purge focus solely on DEI/Joint Chiefs. Firing the service TJAGs - the top lawyers for Army, Navy, USAF/Space Force - is incredibly consequential. A little context🧵on why.

This is very, very bad. Am working on a write-up, but let’s just say that firing military leaders for blatantly political reasons is wildly inappropriate; firing all the too lawyers is ominous; firing them all at the same time is a terrifying five-alarm fire

Just look at these paragraphs from the AP story. Hegseth called Brown unqualified solely because he's Black. Then they fired him... and replaced him with a white guy so indisputably unqualified that he requires a Presidential waiver. This is what "merit" means to them. apnews.com/article/trum...

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

AP are really not letting this go. Excellent.

Trump is an enemy of the planet. That's clear. As is the grift.

If true then the US is now a genuine Russia-style mafia state. Russia extorts with energy-, the US with tech-dependence. I trust the conclusions we draw from this will also turn into a semblance of policy.

Powerful. Tomorrow’s front page of the most influential weekly publication in Germany. “BETRAYED. First Zelensky, Soon Us? The radical departure of the US from its allies.”

President Salome Zurabishvili called on Georgians to take to the streets en masse on February 25, the day of the Soviet occupation, when the Russian army entered Tbilisi in 1921. The Georgian Democratic Republic kept resisting for another month.

Half a century ago, at the height of the Cold War, I was a conscripted NCO with a forward-based Dutch artillery battalion in West Germany. In case of war between NATO and the Warsaw Pact, our unit was expected to be destroyed in 1.5 (!) days. Yet, I find the current situation MUCH more frightening.

I created Democracy Docket in 2020 to help keep you informed on the fight for democracy in court. Five years later, it continues to be fearlessly independent and unapologetically pro-democracy. Support the work of its 19-person team: www.democracydocket.com/member-me/

Some of the usual chants at the #GeorgiaProtests: “Until the end!” “The end of winter is coming - the people’s spring is arriving!” “Georgia, revolt!” “We won’t stop, schedule the elections!”

The US is refusing to co-sponsor a draft UN resolution marking three years since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine that backs Kyiv's territorial integrity and condemns Russian aggression, three diplomatic sources said, in a potential stark shift by Ukraine's most powerful Western ally reut.rs/435NMNI

Mr Garcia, I have drafted an appropriate response for you. You're welcome.

Under-remarked is the cruelty of Trump's pronouncements on Zelenskyy & responsibility for Russia's war on Ukraine. Zero thought given to what Ukrainians have lost & how this has affected them. That cruelty extends to almost all he does. He's a monster.

Happily, I mostly teach small groups & I mandate attendance but overall this is familiar. I increasingly feel like an old relic in discussions re how to adjust teaching progs amid neoliberal pressures.

My OH just sent me this with the msg: "I'm in the Ticketmaster queue now. Will it be subject to dynamic pricing? Maybe it'll be £2.50 when I get to the checkout". 🤣

⚡️ Russian disinformation behind Trump's claim of 4% approval rating, Zelensky says. "We saw this disinformation. We understand it comes from Russia... we have evidence that those figures have been discussed between the U.S. and Russia," Zelensky said.

Mogherini: Policymaking alone will not give Europeans the leap in integration now so evidently required. Researchers are fundamental to get us thinking differently & innovatively.

So good to be in an environment where researchers are told how important they (we) are, especially given the "impossible world", the "dramatic moment" we're living in now. #Mogherini wearing her policy and educational hats simultaneously & convincingly at #LeidenUniversity's #EuropeHub launch.

If the jury was out on the #EPC, it's now surely in. What's the point of it if it can't be rallied when needed? (What need could be greater?)

We are launching our #LeidenUniversity #EuropeHub in Brussels today. Many thanks to the #STOA Panel #Europarl.eu for hosting us and to @linagalvez.eu for her inspiring opening remarks.

Oh my, this is 🤣🤣🤣. Gerbrandy just played it at our #LeidenUniversity #AlumniEvent in Brussels. Brilliant.

Erdogan blijft bij zijn standpunt: Turkije erkent de volledige territoriale integriteit van Oekraine, inclusief de Krim. Zegt dat Ankara bereid is om te bemiddelen tussen Kyiv en Moskou.

Travelling to Brussels in a carriage with a man listening to a film on his phone - without 🎧. Fortunately, Bob Marley is telling me everything's gonna be alright and so is saving another life. 😉

This made me feel better. (NB: it's from 2023.)

I wonder how many of those who voted for Wilders agree with him on this. I certainly don't take continued Dutch support for Ukraine for granted.

This by Michael Rosen is terrifying and apt for the times we live in now.
