⚡️'Russia will hit your other cheek as well' — Ukraine rebukes Slovak FM's call to 'perhaps forgive' Moscow. "Russia's sense of impunity is the root cause of its crimes," Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote. "It's naive to expect a criminal to stop if their crime is forgiven instead of punished."

Day 214 of uninterrupted #GeorgiaProtests. A large rally again. For 7 months, we haven’t stopped. It might plateau and spike again, but we will not surrender our country to a Russian takeover. Friends can help us avoid costs through tangible steps such as targeted sanctions.

These two furry fellas 🐕 got trapped under the rubble of buildings that Russia bombed in Poltava region, Ukraine the night before . Rescuers heard a weak squealing under the ruins - and despite the risk of the wall collapsing, got the animals out.

More than a third of Tuvalu citizens have entered the ballot for a world-first climate visa which would allow them to permanently migrate to Australia. At just five metres (16ft) above sea level, the tiny Pacific archipelago is one of the most climate-threatened nations in the world.

Thousands of protesters gathered across the state of Wyoming, with more than 500 people outside of the state’s Capitol building. The event was held to counter GOP Sen. Mike Lee’s unhinged plan to sell-off millions of acres of public land. More here:

Once you thought "well, once they start disappearing people-" -- these disappearances have begun. Once you thought "well, if the heat goes beyond survivable-" -- it is killing people now, in the privileged areas of the global North. What you thought you would do, if it came to this -- do it now.

Prof Mark Pollack, #TempleUniversity, interviewing Ms Ruth Bajada, EU Deputy Ambassador to the US at @ces-europe.bsky.social annual conference. Tough times to be an ambo to the US, I'd say! Mark's nicely outlining some of the challenges the EU is facing currently, some exacerbated by Trump.

Adding this screenshot from @mcopelov.bsky.social's lecture to my list of evidence for arguments beginning "if you live long enough ...", which younger academics might counter with, even if silently, "you can live too long". 😉 @ces-europe.bsky.social

@mcopelov.bsky.social delivering the @jcms-eu.bsky.social Annual Lecture at #CES @ces-europe.bsky.social. Speaking fully to the conference theme of Legacies & Ruptures, we're hearing abt "Europe Adrift: the Future of the EU, the Global Economy & World Order in an Era of Geopolitical Uncertainty".

We're up and running at 2025 #CESConference in a very hot Philadelphia. For obvious reasons, we're a small conference this year but the conversations are good & whatever the worries I had about getting here (plenty of those), I'm glad I made it to support our US colleagues & to hear their voices.

Important update on Russian authoritarianism from 2 Russians in exile who have direct experience of the tools available to this repressive regime.

As I leave for Philadelphia & the #CouncilforEuropeanStudies conference, I've learned one important lesson, don't live where I do & expect to travel to Schiphol in a week when #NATO is holding a summit in The Hague. Roads closed, power down #nightmare. councilforeuropeanstudies.org/philadelphia...

⚡ Belarus has freed 14 political prisoners, including Siarhei Tsikhanouski, husband of opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya. The release follows a meeting between Alexander Lukashenko and U.S. envoy Keith Kellogg. meduza.io/en/news/2025...

We just bought and listened to this 2024 album, #More from #Pulp that I'd missed until now. It's beautiful. My 2025 summer sound. The last 2 tracks have a yearning, almost operatic quality to them. (The pressing on limited edition "Theresa" (green) vinyl is a nice bonus too.)

This is a truly horrific story that tells you all you need to know about how women, especially black women, are regarded in the US. And surely the hospital has the option to waive all these bills for someone who was, after all, one of their own?

"We remember what you did on June 20" - Activists stage performance, turn fountain water at the parliament red as Day 206 of #GeorgiaProtests falls on 5th anniversary of "Gavrilov's Night", when violent dispersal of anti-Russia rally left protesters, journalists injured. 📷 Guram Muradov/Civil.ge

"11 Palestinians have been killed since midnight, at least 4 children are amongst the dead. The Israeli military killed at least 56 Palestinians on Monday alone. Most of them were killed by a mix of air strikes and snipers whilst trying to access food"

The toll of this morning's Russian assault: 14 killed. 55 injured. 40 hospitalized. Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the devastating numbers. Residential buildings destroyed. Civilians buried under rubble. This is not just war. This is terror. And the world must not stay silent.

🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands. Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵

From what I've seen of the military parade, it signalled huge US vulnerability, not least because of the lack of unity among the American people, amplified by the amazing scenes from #NoKings protests. A country divided at home is weaker abroad. The US's enemies will not have failed to notice.

👇🏽❤️ Serendipity is so underrated. Years ago, I argued vs my university employing Talis Aspire, saying we'd rob students of the serendipitous encounters we'd experienced when looking for a bookshelf mark, instead lured by a title we had no idea to look for. Convenience is not the be all & end all.

There are neither words nor tears enough.

Excellent news and a well-written article that sets out the legal judgments in an accessible way.

This can't be true. Can it? I just can't tell anymore.

I hope you don’t mind me sharing some good news 😉 On the night of June 11–12, Ukrainian drones struck the Rezonit technology park in moscow oblast. The facility plays a critical role in russia’s defence industry, producing electronic components for missiles, drones, and other advanced weapons.

Day 1205 of my 3 day war. Hitting 1 million casualties in a pointless war on Russia's national day is perfect symbol of what I've done to Russia. I remain a master strategist.

Blistering stuff: "I felt that it was immoral and insanely excessive. I felt that they stopped thinking and feeling, and they were willing to do everything to achieve a goal that wasn’t really a real goal … and if there is a goal, it’s to try to get rid of Gaza’s population by any means.”

Dear Mr Fleisher, I'm one of those who thinks the UK sanctions are entirely justified & constitute too little too late vs anything else. #BBCRadio4PM

I never want to hear another American telling me they're Italian-American or Irish-American - until the day it's also okay for Haitian-Americans or Mexican-Americans to state their heritage as proudly. #Don'tTellMeThisIsn'tAboutRacism.

It's almost as if this is what crypto currencies are designed for.

How now-DHS Secretary Kristi Noem felt about a president potentially federalizing the National Guard one year ago:

Worth listening to the full commentary to understand just how Americans themselves see this.

Oh for an editor who demanded a redraft that respected the chronology of events. The UK proposition is in response to Russian threats, a basic fact he might want to have centred. There are important questions to be asked of this aspect of the SDR but they have to be seriously & accurately framed.

This is possibly the most Californian response I've ever seen.
