I genuinely think the role of Meta specifically in driving loneliness is underrated. Facebook replaced existing ways of keeping up with friends with what was briefly a great product, then destroyed that product.

This is part of it, but I think there’s something else at work. The issue as I see it is that there is a specific set of informal scripts assigned to each country that public officials and prestigious institutions are bound to adhere to by a variety of conventions.
