i've been sitting here silently, trying to describe the feeling of reading a journalist whose beat is "people and power" and "accountability" saying something like this. so far I've come up with "your car mechanic telling you to fill up your gas tank with antifreeze"

@rokhanna.bsky.social I was forwarded your tweet about biology in Palo Alto. SF did all this in 2015 from middle until 11th. Progressives must get in front and reclaim education What's going on is not equity. This podcast episode is fantastic. youtu.be/KjN7DGrLA7c?...

I've been waiting too long to share this with you all! Full #Superman Trailer this Wednesday.

I was served an ad on Instagram because one of their dresses was an Oprah’s Favorite Thing? So I clicked around and found this, which is either the best or worst thing I’ve ever seen. www.freelady.shop/products/lui...

I've been battling a cold. I have to fly across the country tomorrow for commencement. I am going to wear a mask of course. I hope people don't yell at me. It's for everyone else not me. I don't enjoy wearing it but I also see no need to infect every one around me ( I think i am past contagious)

Interesting . I'm an old mom and I wasn't the only one but I did notice younger ones were not that common. So much so the kids would say "wow so and so mom is young". Hey!! sfstandard.com/2025/05/11/b...

This podcast is essential listening for folks who care about math education. Dr Stokke is a university level math professor and she's been sounding the alarm about k to 12 preparedness.

The latest episodes of #Andor show how authoritarianism becomes ordinary — how people get crushed by systems pretending to keep order. We break it down in our article on the show as a metaphor for American fascism: www.wired.com/story/star-w...

I really like walking early in the morning which I never thought I would say. ( The walking part). I see the same early morning people. We are all nodding acquaintances. It's nice. I feel connected to my small part of the world.

I hear he wants to reopen Alcatraz. My son told me. Which then reminded me of a field trip he went on and my daughter was outraged she didn't get to go so we took her. You reopen that and all the sweet sweet tourist money is gone.

A month ago, Valnet decided to severely reduce superhero content to being 10% of the site’s content because it was no longer profitable compared to non-super movies and TV shows. I pushed back against this and the managing editor told me ‘I do need to keep CBR’s overall goals in mind.’

It is a little weird to me countries aren’t more aggressively, formally trying to take advantage of the U.S. science brain drain. Once in a lifetime opportunity to buy low on Non-Dumbass Americans with PhDs who just wanna look into microscopes and quietly cure ass cancer as our country eats shit.

I think a lot about what Carl Sagan said in one of his final interviews.

I just texted the family chat "is this real" ? And everyone replied with yes.

Every word of this! Great essay on #SINNERS as a watershed work of art—and as a business vehicle that has exposed the Entertainment Industry’s long history of exploiting Black Artists. By Tiana Clark for NYT Opinion www.nytimes.com/2025/05/03/o...

There was a rather charming trend in the 1910s to introduce the actor at the beginning of the film by showing them first in their street or evening clothes and then dissolving into the costume of their characters. Here we see recent stage import William S. Hart become a bandit in THE BARGAIN (1914).

I’m a big fan of Jonathan Plucker’s work on advanced learning. Just found his excellent Substack—highly recommend. Here's a snippet. I agree: too many advanced math students aren’t getting in-class acceleration. We need advanced programming for them. jonathanplucker.substack.com/p/spring-has...
