It's a small thing, and of course there's much more to it doctrinally, but a simple statement of the law like this can go a long way in all national news stories: "The U.S. Constitution guarantees freedom of speech for everyone in the U.S., regardless of immigration status."

"In the 24 hours after Harvard President Alan M. Garber ’76 announced that he would not comply with the White House, the University received more than 3,800 online donations totaling more than $1 million" www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

Beating a dead horse here, but higher ed is an incredible source of American soft power The international students we educate at places like my institution, Harvard Kennedy School, bring their educational experiences to their home countries in ways that greatly enhance US interests

Harvard Medical School’s “unrestricted funds would last only a decade if it decapitalized $300 million a year — the amount necessary to cover lost federal funding and the school’s annual deficit spending” www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

Chris is 100% correct - any openings will empower Trump to try to shift the Overton window on court compliance

In a development that should shock absolutely no one, Trump now “sees the promises of nearly $1 billion in pro bono legal services that he has extracted from the elite law firm…as a legal war chest to be used as he wishes” www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/u...

These are not gifts; they are contracts for work.

Harvard acted wisely. The Trump demand would eliminate DEI--which is legal when practiced w/o racial classifications--but impose a viewpoint diversity mandate on every Harvard department: effectively, DEI for election denialists, creationists, climate skeptics, anti-vaxxers, & other cranks. “The polite opening paragraphs gave way to a range of demands so broad and intrusive that they stunned Harvard leaders, who had until recently been open to hammering out some kind of accord with the government” -> The insanity of the demands gave Harvard no choice www.nytimes.com/2025/04/15/u...

"David R. Walt, a professor at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Womens’ Hospital...received an immediate stop work order from a Health and Human Services grant supporting ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease." www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

Good reporting here. Student paper gets what the bigs have missed. White House is actually threatening to defund all of bostons major hospitals www.thecrimson.com/article/2025...

There is a PR narrative quickly emerging about “entitlement” of elite universities, as if this $ is some sort of subsidy Harvard & others must counter this quickly The $ doesn’t flow into Harvard’s coffers - this is grant money, most of which goes to research the govt has agreed has social value

Firmly believe that the the insanity of Trump’s demands left Harvard leadership with no choice Truly scary stuff The administration was either looking for a fight or emboldened after Columbia’s capitulation, or both

Time to file the lawsuits apnews.com/article/harv...

Cornell, MIT, CalTech, Princeton, Michigan and the U of R joined in on this one It challenges the DOE indirect rate cap under the APA, among other arguments Filed today: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

attn: Harvard's lawyers

today's letter is a completely different letter than the one written by the Harvard president a week ago -- tone, content, everything --> I can't help but think this was written by a different person basically

back from class, what happened?

Here is the situation if I’m understanding it correctly: 1. They are deporting lawful immigrants erroneously to prisons overseas 2. They are claiming no recourse to return these individuals 3. They say they are open to deporting citizens in the same way

Undoing decades of a hugely successful partnership between government and universities that has improved the lives of millions of Americans and has helped secure US leadership on culture, science, and technology to own the libs

Here's clear evidence that there is absolutely no justification for the Trump Administration's financial threats against higher ed -- no rhyme or reason other than grievance just completely & totally capricious www.nytimes.com/2025/04/14/u...

The person arrested was a man “who has previously expressed disdain for Democrats on social media” 6abc.com/post/possibl...

The Democratic Party needs to be talking about overturning Trump v. US.

Yes. This is not the end of the story.

Before folks overreact to headlines about the judge’s ruling in the Khalil case, please note that (1) it was an immigration judge (IJ), not a federal district court; and (2) the IJ had no power to consider Khalil’s constitutional objections. This particular decision was a fait accompli.
