And politically stupid, too. Alienates core vote (& they do have places to go) in pursuit of votes he'll rarely get, & demolishes his core policy agenda of growth, making his re-election more unlikely. Even those (inc. me) willing to cut him a lot of slack feel betrayed. A truly awful day for UK.

Labour are teaching us that if you have over 400 MPs and are in the first year of government, so no need for elections until 2029, you should definitely focus your policies on what a party with five MPs is calling for, rather than doing what's best for the country,

It’s not fucking rocket science. You fight populism by Making Things Better In People’s Lives. Especially in the lives of those who are struggling already.

Hey British media, It’s no surprise that if you give Farage the run of the place, he’ll start winning. Time to do your actual jobs and start interrogating him on his Brexit shitshow, his funding, his Trumpiness, his idiotic manifesto, his real plans for the NHS… instead of drumrolling him into No.10

This, from Lewis Goodall, is bang on the mark.

Well said. As we only seem to value people who are "economically active" (horrible term), so many contributions are overlooked. And many of the uncosted activities have far more value to communities than millionaires who syphon their money abroad and avoid taxes.

If Starmer stopped chasing far right Farage’s inhuman policies and chased Ed Davey’s policies instead, this country would be a much kinder and fairer place to live.

It seems to me like Labour are focused on getting the right wing media onside (just look at them writing in The Sun and The Telegraph and pursuing ever more RW policies) while leaving the majority of their actual, socially progressive base behind.

Perhaps we might live longer and be happier too, if certain national newspapers didn’t whip up hate every time somebody mentions cycle lanes, LTNs, or 15 minute cities. @telegraphnews.bsky.social

For the Americans thinking "They should just accept it".... lets say Mexico invades and occupies Texas. Bombs schools, hospitals, Kidnaps your children to raise in Mexico. Russia then makes a deal with Mexico, without you, to give up Texas and just forget it ever happened. Would you?

Our prime minister shouldn't be taking sides. What about those who can't drive and take public transport, walk or cycle? Is he not on their side? Why is Labour - cutting fuel duty - funding large road infrastructure - increasing the cost of public transport - not investing in cycling? 😬👎

A positive step. All our polling shows public overwhelmingly welcome a closer UK/EU relationship. Considering it will trigger full-volume BREXIT BETRAYAL headlines, however, why not be more ambitious and go for alignment across all sectors that will actually boost growth and offset US tariffs? ~AA

“There’s a lot of misplaced optimism about [a UK-US] deal. It’s inconceivable that the Trump team do a deal that doesn’t involve a big concession from us... If you want a quick win on UK growth, reducing trade barriers with Europe looks like an absolute no-brainer.” ~AA inews.co.uk/news/politic...

In Hitler's last will and testament, dictating hours before he committed suicide, 80 years ago in April 1945, he insisted that no one had wanted war in 1939. It had been forced on him by 'international Jewry and its helpers.'

It's not that China is inherently the stronger or more resilient economy. China has been preparing for an economic showdown with the US for 10 years. Meanwhile, the US government didn't know what it's opening salvo would be two hours before Trump fired it.

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked, "If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?" Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

Just had a fantastic long weekend of bird walks, courtesy of Essex BirdWatching Society @essexbirdnews.bsky.social @esbr-essex.bsky.social @swallowbirding.bsky.social & many others. I got over 70sp most days, around 100sp in all. Essex’s a great place for birding! #EssexBirding

Dr Peter Marks, "Vaccines have been studied very extensively for being potentially associated with autism" "That theory has been debunked" "One study in Denmark, over 600,000 children. It shows that if anything, children had a lower rate of autism than unvaccinated children"

How about awarding MPs their salaries on a points system? We can give them a 50-page form to fill out to show us what they have accomplished, and they can be regularly assessed to see if they qualify for money like disabled people. That would be more efficient, right?

To stop cycle fatalities you need: ✔️Protected cycle tracks on main roads that continue at junctions that keep vulnerable road users and large vehicles separate. You don't need: ❌Helmets ❌High Viz ❌Cycle training

The new global divide makes Brexit an anomaly. New post on my Brexit & Beyond Blog on the choices facing the UK, what they show about the realities of sovereignty, how they're already changing domestic politics, and what they mean for Brexit: chrisgreybrexitblog.blogspot.com/2025/03/the-...

The Prime Minister should show British leadership on Ukraine by inviting President Zelenskyy to address Parliament on Monday. I'm proud that the UK has been Ukraine's staunchest ally from the start. We mustn't falter in the face of Trump's bullying now.

Recommendations wanted, please, for warm touchscreen gloves, and also for rechargeable hand warmers. Whilst I *love* birding, I definitely don’t enjoy the cold days quite so much! #BirdingGear #UKbirding
