The Rural Electrification Scheme finished in 1965. Now in 2025 we have what amounts to Mark II of the scheme. Storm Éowyn left 729,000 homes without power. Trees planted by Coillte beside ESB lines blew down, destroying the network. Today 11 days on, 32,000 homes are still out. Coillte culprits.

Sligo Co Co is to seek funds for the re-opening of the old Sligo jail as a tourism project. A voluntary group, The Friends of Sligo Gaol, has been pushing for the project for years. The group commissioned a feasibility study which identified how it can become a flagship tourism project.

According to OilPrices.ie Sligo had the cheapest heating oil in 2024. Wicklow and Leitrim were close behind.

Even though I never mastered dancing I faked some steps to them in a marquee in Garrison Fermanagh many moons ago. Great band. Same night an RUC Land Rover was set alight outside as the officers were scrutinising dancers inside.

Good to see that there is now a Search facility on the Journal app. Earlier this year many complained that they had to scroll back to find things. As a regular user of the app I find Search very useful.
