Thanks to everyone who came out to make this launch a success! Special shout-outs to our @bayme.sh friends for tracking the balloon to Pinnacles after we lost LOS and the @noisebridge.bsky.social folks listening at home! Next up: scenic park hike to recover the payload? #spacebridge #meshtastic

i don't understand how to teach making things simple. it's like people have this built-in resistance to it, i have no idea how to get underneath that. i just paired with someone on something and we deleted probably about 75% of the code and then it was good. why is everything like this

bluesky should bring back invite codes very easy to bootstrap trust in new accounts via the social network very easy to prune offending subtrees there are enough users now that it’s not a meaningful throttle on growth

the purpose of cryptography is to force the US government to torture you

Backscatter discourse, I’m so curious

when we decide to make the software good instead of bad it’s so over for the surveillance state

IMHO: Because Likes are (unavoidably) public data on Bluesky, there should be a Likes tab on our profiles as a reminder. Not enough to warn people during onboarding. Friction can be a good thing in many cases but this isn't one of them. Likes feeling private but being public is a UX footgun.

An unordered / non-exhaustive list of things that helped scale Bluesky's infra efficiently: + Exiting the cloud (colocation) + HAProxy w/many Node backends + Go w/clever code + ScyllaDB + SQLite w/per user databases + Redis w/many instances + AMD servers w/many cores + Purchasing bandwidth directly

Psst…You want to know about the NASA website that spells out your name in Landsat imagery. 🧪 landsat.gsfc.nasa.gov/apps/YourNam...

NYPD, etc could solve this by having two people blocking the view

Sometimes I worry about my post being public for AI to train on, and localize me
