#Violin players, please help me out: Is this playable? Tempo is quarter-note = 68. And is it the good kind of challenging, or is it the curse-the-jerk-who-wrote-this kind of challenging?

Update on my life: Last year, I joined my kids' school's PTA, because they needed a treasurer and I'm good enough with numbers. It was a straightforward, self-contained job: balancing the checkbook for an organization that only did a few fundraisers each year.

A milestone I missed when it happened: sometime in the last few months, my work in progress (The Luminous Mysteries, setting all the prayers of the rosary for chorus and orchestra) became the longest composition I have written. #composing

I just found out my wife has absolute pitch. We’ve known each other more than 35 years, I’ve been a musician the whole time, and somehow this never came up until this morning. I’m astounded. And looking forward to the next 35 years of surprises.

I often think about how Mendelssohn had a society for historical music that played pieces by Bach that were then only about 75 years old. A similar group today could do Stockhausen, Babbitt, Xenakis…
