It strikes me that in a realigned world where Europe must be its own minder, step up as a superpower and try and act as a moral counterbalance to everyone else, regular migration into the bloc is actually a strategic boon not to be wasted.

"It is not worth your time or mine to fact check any of this. It would be as to fact check the Ministry of Love, the inane ramblings of a propaganda minister, or a toddler, talking to themselves. But this is a toddler nominally in charge of the West." @lewisgoodall.com

Stupid, or lazy, or cowardly, or malicious, or tremendously ambivalent to the suffering of vulnerable members of society, or some/all of the above. But definitely shameful.

As the cabinet discusses whether or not to further junk the idea of sustainable development and zone more greenfield land for resi, I'm thinking that Ireland needs a strong voice for progressive planning principles. (We can build on lands already zoned, it is a question of political will & ethics)

Viability is a matter of political will. MicheĂĄl Martin signalling this morning that he lacks the will to solve the biggest social crisis of our time.

Here's something that takes seconds and could have actual positive outcomes. There is an official 'citizen's petition' system in the EU. There's one open at the moment to ban conversion therapy for LGBT+ people in the EU. Ireland can be 1 of the 7 nations needed eci.ec.europa.eu/043/public/#...

I'm glad that revolutionary socialist Paul Murphy (who is not at all a player of the sort of political games the phoney centre left would play to offer up a false dichotomy between themselves and the establishment) is seeking an injunction to... lower the number of people who can attend cabinet.

As an awkward stickler for rules and impatient pusher of half-cooked notions by nature, if I ever became a minister I'd definitely insist on a formal vote on something at either my first or second meeting.

Really quite depressing though also quite foreseeable from quite a distance out.

Michael Lowry seething because he he could never have pulled this shit with Denis O'Brien. "Once bought, stay bought!" is his principle (sic).

Re virtue signalling: it’s pissed me off for years that if in your life and work you try to squeeze out hope, joy or kindness, *that’s* “bollox” “drivel” “fake”. A lot of people have been bamboozled into thinking only cruelty is “real”. Bollox, I say.

from ‘political correctness’ to ‘sjws’ to ‘woke’ there’s always a nonsense term used by dickheads to put down people that make them feel bad by being better than them

John Prescott’s coffin has arrived at Hull Minster for his funeral. Appropriately, the hearse was a Jag, as is the family’s car. A knowing wink you suspect. Two Jags to the end.

Eoin Ó Broin contemplating the fundamental cosmology of all things as Mairéad Farrell nominates Mary Lou.

Since when did the DĂĄil do roll call votes? (And is the answer 'since the pandemic')

The DĂĄil proceedings are all very mad, but Verona Murphy's interpretation of the existing rules seems correct to me. Perhaps those rules should change, but under any proposal, Michael Lowry is an opposition TD while the 2020 government remains in office, which it does.

The sanewashing of that inauguration ramble is impressive by all outlets. I wonder has any other outgoing US President smirked uncontrollably through every mad twist of their successor's speech?

I find tbe First Home Scheme to be quite a worrying formula for tackling affordability. I suspect we'll be forgiving a lot of this debt in the future, the state having pumped considerable cash into the demand side of an already inflated market. It's time for prices to come down in a managed way.

Here's the study that shows the Gazan Health Ministry is underestimating deaths by 40%, and that something like one in every 25 Gazans was killed in the period October '23 to June '24. www.thelancet.com/journals/lan...

And Adans on the NUI ballot is of the same ilk

I logged into work on December 27th but all I did was hand in my notice, so I think that's ok

The next Starmer reset will go very left field...
