The owner of Twitter sends out 100 right wing propaganda tweets every single day and the algorithm is set up so that every single person on Twitter has to see every single one of these tweets. Now here’s another piece about Blue Sky’s ideological diversity problem.

The radicalization of the American right is THE story of US politics over the last four decades and political reporters are still not allowed to talk about it

happy Father’s Day includes my half-joking Rogue One Theory cc @garywhitta.com

This is a good piece (gift link) on how the federal government ghosting Northwestern on congressionally-appropriated funding for three months is affecting the university...and will affect medical research more broadly.

I thought I was losing my mind when this happened because it was an attempted assassination of a national political leader and it was treated like it was nothing.

these aren’t the only lies in the info HHS sent to Congress seems like lying to Congress should carry some sort of consequences even if the liar’s goal wasn’t to take away safe and effective lifesaving vaccines www.npr.org/2025/06/13/n...

"The HHS document says that another paper it cites found 'an increase in placental blood clotting in pregnant mothers who took the vaccine.' But the paper doesn't contain any reference to placental blood clots or to pregnant women." www.npr.org/2025/06/13/n...

okay holy shit actually

The violence reported is that two people drove their cars into protesters.

I categorically refuse to accept either of these as normal or routine. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/14/u...

MSNBC reporter on ground in LA right now saying that from what he has seen the protestors have been peaceful but the LA Sheriff’s Dept in particular has been off the chain, quick to use tear gas and rubber bullets in an exceedingly aggressive manner

the story today is of a profoundly low energy military parade being met with millions of americans in nationwide protests denouncing the dictatorial pretensions of the president

“Our lunch is spoiled,” said Toad. “I made it for you, Frog, so that you would be happy.” “But Toad,” said Frog, “I AM happy. I am very happy. This morning when I woke up, I felt good because the sun was shining. I felt good because I was a frog. And I felt good because I have you for a friend.”

the only king for me

Alternatively, “Thousands of Americans expected to take to the streets in defense of their neighbors and their democracy” www.nytimes.com/live/2025/06...

Just to be clear, these court verdicts have nothing to do with scientific fact. They make money off lying about vaccines. These people are compromised. They have a personal, financial agenda against vaccines. So much for “radical transparency.” RFK Jr. himself makes most of his money the same way.

Ok if someone asks you how to prep for No Kings, don't warn them about kettles and tear gas, warn them about the literal sun. "Bring a hat, sunscreen, snacks, twice as much water as you think you need, and flag/sign of your choice. Wear comfy shoes. If your phone is old bring a battery pack."

What no, that's the point, that if it comes to that, the public then sees the cops brutalizing a bunch of people sitting peacefully. You're not doing a magic ritual, you're demonstrating that you are reasonable and they are not. That's how some protests work: getting your ass beat for the cause

“They appear to be peculiar to human physiology: Baur (1863) looked for Houston's valves in a number of mammals, including wolf, bear, rhinoceros, and several Old World primates, but found no evidence.” humans are special, including Wikipedia cc @depthsofwikipedia.bsky.social

<thread> On the left: June 12, Judge Breyer writing that THE test for whether the US Marines/Guard violate Posse Comitatus will be whether they've engaged in "detaining" civilians. On the right: June 13: See for yourself. Note: The DoD has confirmed the detention of civilian to Reuters.

Just out in JAMA, Paul Offit, Doris Reiss, & I discuss the ACIP firings, & RFK's disregard of science, evidence, & good public administration. jamanetwork.com/journals/jam...

States with permissive gun laws experienced a rise in pediatric deaths from firearm injuries between 2011 and 2023, whereas states with stricter laws did not. "We know that the leading cause of death in children is firearm injuries." www.npr.org/sections/sho...

In a free and functioning democracy, one should be able to express opinions without fear of government retribution against one's employer (and other affiliates) even without noting that one is not making official policy proclamations on behalf of that employer or voluntary / professional org

Despite promising that new ACIP advisors would not be "ideological anti-vaxxers," some of RFK Jr.'s new appointees are known for their anti-vaccine views. New member Robert Malone, MD, posted, "The term 'anti-vaxer' it is not a slur, but a compliment." www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdi...

"Science Shattered". I confess that even I was unaware of the statement that opens this piece: "The National Institutes of Health is responsible for more than 80% of the world’s grant investment in biomedical research." 🧪 projects.propublica.org/nih-cuts-res...
