In news that is not awful, I have a fancy new tour card for Hot Air -- which comes out in less than a month! I am so excited to be in conversation with some of my favorite writers/people: @emmastraub.bsky.social, @laurasimswriter.bsky.social and @laurazigman.bsky.social.

Activists protest Trump's visit to New Orleans as he attended the Super Bowl. The march and rally on Superbowl Sunday was supported by numerous NOLA social justice groups: NOCOP, QTCAP, NOSHIP & FRSO. Here is a set on my site: www.jsdart.com/.../G0000DSg... #superbowl #anti-trump #protest #nola

Courts *ordered* the Trump admin to stop its spending freeze Yet ProPublica found place after place where $ is still frozen -hot meals for elderly and disabled -groceries for those in need -maternal & child health services -a clinic that serves the poor www.propublica.org/article/trum...

Government funding runs out on March 14. Republicans can’t pass a bill alone, so Democrats have real leverage here. We’re calling on Democrats to commit to withholding their votes and insist on an end to the Trump-Musk coup rampaging across the government.

Posted around NYC, Chicago, DC and other cities. Be creative. Do something!

I just finished watching Mo on Netflix. It's a beautiful and funny show, which seems almost impossible considering the subject. The finale, Mo's family returning to Palestine for a visit back home, made me think about making art and the small moments of people living their lives.

We are members of Congress at the Treasury Department. We want to be let in to provide oversight on behalf of our constituents. @jasmineforus.bsky.social @sethmagaziner.bsky.social

We need a lot more visible efforts to physically oversee what's happening. More of this, at all affected agencies.

I was just at my local cafe. The woman across from me introduced herself. I had bought an armchair at her garage sale. She was having coffee with someone who turned out to be my next door neighbor. I invited them to my reading. Fun! Here is a link to the event. www.eventbrite.com/e/marcy-derm...

The biggest problem—and Elonald's greatest advantage—is that almost no one knows this Constitutional Coup is happening now, let alone how illegal it is. That alone won't change anything, but it is the first step to taking this on.

Yes, this administration is dangerous and cruel, but they are also shockingly dim and incompetent. Opportunities are everywhere. Make everything as hard as possible. Resist every demand. Refuse entry without a warrant. Don’t take the buyout. Their problem solving skills are 📉

If you can go, go. 5pm today. Last night's cutoff of federal funding by 47 doesn't just mess with the recipients, it violates the Constitution and seizes powers that belong to Congress. It's a dictatorial attempt at consolidation of power in the presidency. www.mobilize.us/climateactio...

I think we're checking almost every one of these in the US right now. (Reposting with alt text.)

This attack on free speech comes at the same time that legislators in Texas are proposing bills to make pro-choice websites illegal. I really hope folks are paying attention

I will be so pleased when more everyone gets a chance to read Hot Air. Thanks, Maud!

So many of my favorite writers have books coming out in 2025, it was like an extra to delight find my novel HOT AIR on this incredible @literaryhub.bsky.social list.

The first review of Hot Air is a rave: a shiny star from Kirkus, declaring, "A new Dermansky novel is like a holiday declared out of the blue." www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews...

Best mistake of the day. I went to the local flower store just before it was closing to get whatever was left. A stray rose. Maybe a lily. I walked out with a beautiful bouquet.

It's all happening. #montclair

Okay, I have a movie recommendation: Babes, starring Ilana Glaser and Michelle Buteau, directed by Pamela Adlon. Turns out it is not only a Thanksgiving movie but also an amazing female friendship story and it might have made me laugh and cry.
