This week we were delighted to share our research into cannabis patient experiences at a webinar for healthcare professionals. Great conversation and questions from the audience. Important to raise awareness of the challenges and stigma patients face.

We watched the parliamentary debate on medicinal cannabis with interest last week. Here's the research briefing published in advance, which cites our study pointing to the problems UK patients have in accessing cannabis based medicines commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-bri...

Good to see national media picking up on the new report by MedCan Family Foundation about the plight of UK parents of children with epilepsy. Our research published 2024 also gets a mention. Important story by Sarah Sinclair www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2025/01...

#cannabismedicine is legal in the uk yet hundreds of epileptic children are denied access to it on the NHS…. We have to make the change

PatientsCann UK is challenging Network Rail's restrictive new policy (NRA24-13), which unfairly bans most legal cannabis prescriptions, risks Equality Act breaches, and forces patients off treatment. 📩 Affected? Share your story via DM or email. patientscann.org.uk/network-rail/

Proud to be featured in this science poetry collection! “Plant-based medicine” by @lmetcalfmcgrath.bsky.social - a poem based on some of our @medcanproject.bsky.social research findings & patient stories #Cannabis #SciComm

Hello new followers! By way of introduction, our first study was informed by the experiences of cannabis patients in the UK. There are many barriers to accessing legal prescriptions here. Our current study is the experiences of people self-medicating (e.g. illicit market, GYO)…

Cannabis prescribing has been legal in the UK since 2018. In our research, patients told us that professionals such as doctors and police were not always up to speed with the law and lacked training. Cannabis Health News wrote this piece: cannabishealthnews.co.uk/2024/10/01/n...

Alison found traditional painkillers didn't work or had terrible side effects. Now she spends £200 a month for a private prescription of #cannabis oil for nighttime and flower to vaporise during the day. "It’s absolutely life-changing." #drugspolicy www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/lifestyle...

Hugely appreciate all our research participants for giving their time & sharing their stories. We are off to analyse the data from our self-medicating study now… updates will be posted here on BlueSky over coming months. Thank you everyone, so much 🙏🌱

Little bit excited to see our journal article on cannabis patient experiences is ‘trending’ and also ‘most read’ in Critical Social Policy! #cannabis #medicalcannabis #drugpolicy @medcanproject.bsky.social doi.org/10.1177/0261...

Welcome, fellow Cannabinerds 😀!

We collaborated with the talented Sophie Maliphant and the brilliant MerseyBeep Music to make a little animation of our research findings on medical cannabis www.youtube.com/watch?v=PR5S...

What happens when the medicine you take is otherwise illegal, and not many people know the law has changed to allow doctors to prescribe it for you? This is the strange (and often scary) liminal space occupied by cannabis patients across the UK volteface.me/experiences-...

We wrote a short piece for @britsoci.bsky.social 's EveryDay Society about the stigma and health inequalities experienced by UK cannabis patients #sociology #health #inequalities #qualitativeresearch es.britsoc.co.uk/prescribed-b...

Our research findings about the stigma & stress experienced by UK #cannabis patients, who are legally taking a drug that is otherwise criminalised, are also published in Critical Social Policy. Free to download #openaccess #drugpolicy #socialpolicy #stigma doi.org/10.1177/0261...

Our first study focused on the stories of people legally prescribed cannabis in the UK. Here's our paper in International Journal of #DrugPolicy IJDP (2023) It's free to download #openaccess www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

We're new here... moving over from the 'other place'. We are Helen & Lindsey, researchers interested in the experiences of people needing cannabis medicine. We'll start sharing some of our research publications here and hope to connect with other people interested in all things #medicalcannabis
