I'm just this guy, you know? I'm also terrible at self-promotion. Medieval drama, manuscripts, and digital humanities. Sometimes in that order. When I can I edit the Minor Works of John Lydgate virtual archive (http://www.minorworksoflydgate.net/).

For those of you going to or at Kalamazoo, the Lydgate Society business meeting is tonight at 6pm in Student Center 2208. Please come and help shape the direction of panels for next year's conference!

This is interesting.

I had been waiting to hear about my renewal. There was a conversation last term where the classes I could expect to teach next year were brought up and what the gameplan would be. I wasn't jumping with joy over the teaching schedule, but it was doable.

The good thing about having a DIY ethos and not being able to pull down grants (I am bad at framing my work, I've decided) is that I never had a grant to lose. So the work is unaffected. The bad news is the work is slow as molasses because it's always an afterthought.

It's the last class of my giant split freshman comp/intro to digital humanities course, and thus the last time I'll see my three TA's together. Last year I mailed them stuff from the US and found out they immediately lose their mailroom privilages when the term ends.

If you use Linux and have a need to run a DSLR as a webcam this site is probably the easiest working guide I've seen.

I have a need for it so I hooked up my old DIY teleprompter. It still works, although I need to figure out a solution for camera control. That shouldn't be too hard, so long as it's seen as a webcam. If not I can always use a regular webcam with USB.

We have a student that submitted their first essay as a scanned document converted to .pdf rather than as a straight .pdf or .docx file. Hence the text is readable by people by not by machine. My TA went ahead and graded it and told them not to do it again, but they did so on their second essay.

Assuming we get out the other side of this ICE needs to be destroyed, burned to the ground, and if we're going to have a Border Patrol it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up with some fucking regulations. And there needs to be fucking trials.

Fun fact that will not matter. If we assume that the phrase "high crimes and misdemeanors" in the US Constitution is to be interpreted the same as other phrases taken from English common law, then there's precedent that appointing unfit subordinates could be construed as such. Just saying.

Apparently Capital One has a browser extension that does the same thing as Honey, so they're getting sued under a class action lawsuit alongside Honey and Paypal as the parent company.

I drive a 2010 CVPI. Which could probably use some fixes to rust in a couple spots since being up here for two years and a new paint job from where the kid on a scooter ran into it and scratched the paint, but is still a pretty sound car. And I know how to do most of the basic maintenance. But...

Folks who know how to use GIMP: is there a way to take an image with a transparent background and pull the subject out if? I'd like to use it as something to wrap the text around and right now it wraps to a rectangle rather than along the outlines of the image.
