I can usually tell as I write which sections are strong and which need work. I'll include [words words] as a filler when I'm on a roll and worried that a transition paragraph will slow me down. Other helpful comments include 'fix this' or 'make it better'- lil signposts to flag what needs attention

For me, I'll usually come back the first time after a few weeks (assuming I'm writing in the gap) but for whole-work drafts where I'm reviewing tens of thousands of words I need like... 6 months minimum, closer to a year to be able to read it unbiased and with clear eyes. If it's abandoned? One day.
