One example of a cascading effect here: Radar goes down —> models can’t assimilate data —> lower model forecast confidence —> more forecaster uncertainty All at a time when the NEXRAD system we still depend on continues to age. Hopeful for repairs soon, but just no bueno ATM.

The 10 strongest hurricanes to make landfall in the US were all tropical storms 3 days before landfall

“My weather app does it better!” -Weather Watches/Warnings? NWS -Forecast data? NWS -Observations? NWS -Satellite? NOAA/NESDIS -Futurecast modeling data? You guessed it, NWS (via EMC). -Climatology data? The weather data compiled over a long period by techs. -Outlooks? NWS Food for thought. 💭

I’m at a loss for words. I’m incredibly saddened for my fellow meteorologists.

This morning was the most significant (and coolest) hoar frost event I’ve seen in Colorado and perhaps anywhere outside of the mountains. Absolutely beautiful.

New seasonal forecast data from the NMME continues to back up ideas of a stormy spring in the Ohio Valley, with drought concerns potentially expanding across the Central and Southern Plains. Perhaps an eastward-shifted peak severe weather season in store for 2025.

Lots of power outages this morning. Will continue to climb and include Mid Atlantic and northeast due to transitioning to windstorm later. #poweroutages

ooof 🥴 Ice. The 3-letter word that keeps utilities up at night. #poweroutage

double ice storm anyone? 🥴 Outages in Virginia are mainly from the first round and the 2nd round moving in now. #icestorm

women in America...

busy week. busy, busy week with this parade of winter storms.

This is SO dumb. 😑

“Why do I need NOAA? I’ve got a weather app.” Is equivalent to asking “Why do I need farms? I can go to the supermarket.” www.noaa.gov/about-our-ag...

Bias, biases, biased are words used in statistics. You know, math. Guess math is DEI now, too.

What a time to be alive?? 😬

Couldn’t help myself

Power lines. Altadena in the wake of the #EatonFire

Bad omen? Here’s my “window seat” good for a nap tho!

The National Weather Service has *once again* issued an elevated "Particularly Dangerous Situation" (PDS) Red Flag Warning for large portions of Los Angeles & Ventura Counties early Tue though Wed due to return of very strong offshore winds and extremely dry air. #CAwx #CAfire

One flight down, one to go! #AMS2025

There’s never been a better time to rock these bad boys #AMS2025

I’m so excited to attend #AMS2025 I haven’t been in attendance for AMS since 2011!! I’m excited to learn all the things and catch up with other fellow meteorology acquaintances 🙌🏻
