I'm killing so many darlings today they're gonna have to make a "Law and Order" episode about it. #WritingCommunity #Booksy #Writesky #Scriptsky

ctrl X: kill your darlings

This is a small thing, things being what they are, but my favorite sandlewood hair cream has been discontinued and this is a blow. My inner world involves a lot of personalities and many of them smell like woodsmoke, bay, spice, and skin so I'm going to have to start looking for new inspiration.

One, two, three, four. I just won a thumb war. Coffee will be brought bedside this morning and I can laze about like Bertie Wooster.

Writing tonight and these pages are, so far, all terrible. I know once the words are down they can be snipped, replaced, and rearranged into something better. But at the moment...

When you take your dog to an obedience class establish dominance by going up to the oldest dog there and teaching it a new trick

Book section of local thrift store. Accented with...dolls.

Haven't had an appt since before Thanksgiving so I'm just gonna ask my therapist if he wants to go stay in a bed and breakfast this weekend

Atonement is my next read and it will be a first for me. In the film, the sex up against the library shelves is in my top 5 cinema sex scenes so I'm entering into the experience with an open mind, but hoping for library sex. I'll report back.

What's the password

Currently sprawled out on a camping chair, like a lizard on a rock, desperately soaking up sun.

A power move at a meeting would be to slam a notebook on the conference table, & then set, delicately, a coupe of champagne beside it, & say, “Shall we make a start?”

Blue sky above and below. It smells like wet winter leaves and, from nearby homes tumble drying clothes, clean laundry.

Did you say walk?

Bookshop.org is offering 20% off this collection of romances by black authors with code BHM25. We've talked about quite a few of them on the show, and two were Best of 2024 picks.

It’s pub day for the UK edition of JANE AUSTEN’S BOOKSHELF — which features a special SIGNED limited indie exclusive issue found in the link below. These are sprinkled around indies in the UK — if you are one of these indies, @ me your link and I’ll boost for those who want the signed version!

One of my colleagues brought her dog to work today and let me just say, work is way better with an office dog! #dogs

Apropos of nothing, a reminder that the French Olympics sent us a very subtle message about the divine right of kings.

Mood

Working from home and my husband is on a call with someone who has an amazingly sexy voice. Smoky somehow and sort of growly and sarcastic. So this is a meeting I don't mind having to listen to.

Regardless the question, a cup of tea is the answer.

A day on a boat would fix me. Not picky about what kind or which body of water, as long as we're moving and there is wind.

This is the section of trail where I always recall that there are mountain lions in my area. I'm not likely to ever see one but more than once my dog has just refused to come down this way. Smells the air, and nope! Not today, lady.

I have the morning off so the pup and I went on a little ramble. Bright new grass is appearing in patches, birds are advertising, and the sun is slowly tempting away the frost.

So much water coming down from the mountains today. The creek almost roared. I once spotted a river otter zipping around under this bridge, quick and sleek like a fish. Hopefully today the otter was in gentler waters.

My garden is mostly at rest but the rosemary is in bloom and these camelia leaves are lovely and pointed, like a crisp pocket square.

I used to work in a restaurant with singing waiters and my favorite thing about it was going out to karaoke bars with coworkers after closing. They'd perform their favorite, rather than restaurant appropriate, songs with their whole body and soul and bring the crowd to tears. It was everything.

Some sunsets are like wartime love affairs: intense, dark, and soul destroying. Others, like tonight's: poolside cocktails. Sweet, pretty, watered down, and forgettable.

I’m simple man with simple needs. All I want is a mysterious manor in the Scottish countryside surrounded by majestic trees, a library of centuries-old novels, a cellar filled with the world’s rarest wines, a raven to deliver and retrieve my post, and a butler with a mysterious backstory.

Night sky

Tense moments tonight at the theater when I spotted my neighbors, whose dog is my dog's mortal enemy. I backed away quietly, ready to fight, or defend. Then my husband pointed out neither dog was at the theater and actually the neighbors are nice. Still, I hold a grudge on my dog's behalf.
