Low-Nu works for what it is imo: a product of its time. Not something that would fly in modern gundam. 79 pre-dates the protag switching/upgrading MS halfway/thirdway through the show. A "Modern" take on 79, i feel, would rather go with Nu as Amuro's last gundam in the OYW, and hi-Nu as the CCA one.

you must never underestimate the power of the flashback it is a skillful play to both show that a character is remembering something or being placed in a specific mindset while at the same time saving on time and production cost
